Just my 2 cents. My Grandfather worked at GM and Chrysler, my dad Gm and Chrysler, My uncle Chrysler and in 1981 I purchased a 1973 340 Cuda which was all complete, had some rust and engine ran ok...

How does the throttle action feel from under the hood?

Try working the throttle - with the engine OFF - using the short length of cable that is exposed right where it attaches to the carburetor.

It's sometimes easier to do this with the throttle...
