Yeah Joe, to get a good read on timing and fuel you need a brand new plug, run it WOT and shut it down.

Plugs that have been run a while, lots of idle time, and just general around town...

Snake oil or not I use Lucas oil additive and their fuel treatment and will continue to do so. I don't know jack crap about how well the oil additive works, but for sure the fuel additive improves...

Oil is more religion than science. Yeah the wrong oil or viscosity can certainly screw you, but there is little difference between optimal and good enough.

I know a guy that's had multiple ~700hp...

Its not snake oil. It leaves a sticky film on all your engine parts and it helps a great deal for engines that sit for long periods of time.
And Pontiacs these days do a lot of sitting.
