Its not snake oil. It leaves a sticky film on all your engine parts and it helps a great deal for engines that sit for long periods of time.
And Pontiacs these days do a lot of sitting.

I ran a stock pan with 6 quarts and raced it for years.

I don't like dumping all that fuel in the engine so I usually just pull the carb off and do the test.
