Cliff, having issues with a rebuilt motor. 60 over 400 with 4.00 stroker crank, KRE 85cc heads, cam is roller regrind to int dur 228 with 450 lift
exh dur 236 with 480 lift, Ground on a 113 lobe split. Some guy in Ohio or PA did the carb, IM distributor. Issue is the damn thing won't idle! lowest I can get it is 1700 warmed up (may ave smoked the rings already). 2 culprits I can think of. Carb sat a year - gummed up passages? I tried to shake all the gas out beforehand... 2nd, machinist installed cam - could be out of phase?

Roger, not a problem, we sell them, custom built per application.

We can discuss by phone, you could utilize the 13" unit. They are perfect replacments for stock converters with increased flash stall speed, and locked solid above the stall speed, and very "tight" for normal driving.

The tight 10" would also work, as you have 3.55 gears.

Best to call the shop and we can discuss, saves a lot of typing. 740-397-2921....thanks....Cliff

    Hi Cliff,
Need your help with a converter. 67 firebird vert, 461 w/ 290cfm SD kre heads and stumppuller cam, 512hp and 577tq and 3.55 gears. Car doesn't run like a 500hp car. Hard to even do a brake torque burnout feels like I'm just blowing htrough the converter and its slipping. TCI th350 trans and sizzler converter from the previous engine. I think that I need a Continental custom converter but it could be the trans. The car runs great once moving on. Passing gear and passing other cars is incredable. 4 wheel wilwood discs but I don't feel that this is the problem, and this car has always hooked really well. This is a streetcar with very little strip use. I have trouble getting the tracks to let a 500hp vert w/o cage play. I think that I am faster than 13.5 sec rule. Do you sell Continental converters or just really believe in them? 13" or 10" for my combo? I'm tired of bs salesmen and just want honest help. I built my engine based on your and dave's posts and am happy as hell with the build. Idles at 800 with 14" of vacume and runs like a big dog. Just need help getting power through to the ground.

    Thanks in advance

Throttle plates aren't original, and looks like they were drilled with a chainsaw! They may have had some troubles with the screws as well, as they are smashed out and look larger that the stock 3-48's.

We can fix all that sort of stuff.

I'd install the correct drilled factory plates during the restoration.

I can't tell if the airhorn is correct, it should have a deep recess for the pump boot and retainer?.....Cliff

    Cliff,
Thanks for responding back to my message. I'll call the shop to check the schedule. I'm also attaching pictures of the carburetor. Can you tell me if anything looks out of place?
    Thanks,
    Chris

Chris, contact the shop and get on our waiting list, 740-397-2921.

Send me pics of the carb if you are concerned with it's authenticity. I can smell them from across the room and tell you if it's the real deal?.....thanks.....Cliff
