Mr. Taylor,
Do you have a way to get something to Jim Wangers? This is not Pontiac related.
Jim when to what was then Armour Institute - now the Illinois Institute of Technology - Illinois Tech, or IIT. At a few shows Jim mentioned this. The school is right by the home of the Chicago White Sox - Comiskey Park. Jim stated he is a White Sox fan -and so am I. So, a couple of times - as opposed to most people at car shows - we wouldn't talk Pontiacs - we would talk about the White Sox! I would like to send Jim a cap and perhaps an yearbook - especially since the White Sox won their division. I would appreciate any guidance on this. Thanks - Joe Zielinski - Indian Creek, IL - owner of 69 GP 428 HO, 4spd.
Hey Jim, long time no see. Maybe next year.
I was on Bangshift.com yesterday digging the 427 fords as it was 4-27 date
So for todays date 4-28 they had a couple fords and 428 Pontiacs.
About the 4th Pontiaac video down its Jim Taylor squirreling around on some back road and making some really fun illegal smoke and go fast.
It made me feel like a kid again.
So, once again you are a star with the 428 this time on BANGSHIFT.COM
Later

Question for you....where can I get the two smaller upper control arm bushings that press into the rear-end on a 64 Lemans 8.2 10-bolt? Thank you for any help that you can give.
Your setup should work fine. I like to see an overall first gear ratio of about 9.5:1 to have good drivability with an aluminum flywheel . Yours is 9.98:1. Be careful with the early M-20 (2.56:1), it had a smaller cluster pin than the later ones (with 2.52:1 first gear). You will be fine if you don't have too many launches with slicks. As to the gear drive - I hate them. They make needless noise and provide no benefit. There is even a possibility that they are harder on the valve train as they don't provide the cushion that a chain does. Mounts - Do the Jim Hand trick. I don't think the Mity Mounts are very good. I think they use cheap mounts and then they add a bolt to them to have the same effect as the Jim Hand mod. Then add an active control on the passenger side. On my GTO I used a shift handle to bolt to the head. It bolts into a bracket I had added to the driver's side of the frame. It is a little loose, but not much. The passenger side is also critical if you have headers that go over the frame.
Yes, I made it to Tiger Run again this year. I lost in the finals, breaking out by 0.011 seconds. I had a great time!
Did I answer all of your questions? B/T/W, you should have interrupted me at Madras before. The worst would be that I would ask you to come back later.
OMT
B/T/W, let me know if you get this. I usually screw up the response to the Visitor's messages versus the Private messages.
Hi!
I just wantred to get a few opinions from you on my project- I am building a 65 GTO gasser "style" car It will mainly be a street car heres a few particulars front end has a straight axle installed, no inner fenderwells.no radio ,no heater, trunk mounted
5-gal. moon tank , trunk mounted battery. the engine I have is a 68 WJ 390 horse 428 engine is basically stock except for a RA IV cam and roller rockers I will be going with an old set of three tube headers an old mallory dual point with a pertronix electronic conv. inside.I will be using a s-k warrrior tunnel ram-copy of the early doug nash. for carbs I have two 500 cfm. edelbrock/afbs The rearend is the orig 3:90 safe-t track Which I still need to have gone through Heres a few Questions-----I have a sheifer alum, flywheel and a scattershield, the trans. I have which is fresh is a Muncie m-20 wide ratio with a 2:56 1st. gear I read a few threads which you responded to re: alum flywheels I think I remember you had a formula for horsepwer-weight axle ratio and first gear ratio?? anyway do you think my set-up will work o.k.?? NEXT
Right now the engine has a cloyes double roller timing chain- I was thinking of installing a gear drive- whats your opinion of these on a street car? whats the big difference between the noisy- quiet versions?? also how about quality I have seen cheap ones for around $60.00 on e-bay(probably CHINA JUNK) and ones some guy in WA. has for $500.00!! What do you recomend for a street car?? NEXT-- How about motor mounts?I thought about solids and tranny mount. but most of the threads on PY guys were against them on a street car-What do you think of the Jim Hand trick of welding a rod on the drivers side mount to limit movement?? What exactly are Mity-mounts alot of guys talk about?? I didnt make it to Tiger Run this year did you?? A few years back I saw you there at the Madras Dragstrip- I wanted to talk to you then but you had a small swarm of people around you and you looked like you had your hands full. Any help or ideas would be GREAT!
Thanx Alan
There is a post on PY with a few crappy pics of my rig if you want to check it out.
