The Isky is much better than anything Comp is offering and it should work with stock springs, although I recommend you check the installed height. Compare the lift of the Comp 268 to the Isky and that should tell you if it will work with stock springs. I would recommend a spring change, but stock valvetrain will work fine.

Edelbrock performer (not RPM) is a good manifold. Shift at 5500-5800 for best 1/4 mile tiimes...anything over that exceeds the airflow capability of the FE heads. Spend the money and buy a mallory Dual Point distributor and dial it in (you can do it on the bench with the tool they send) to yield 20° BTDC at idle and 24° total.

Once installed, he will need to take a vacuum reading at idle and select a power valve that is 1/2 that value. For example, if you have 8 in/Hg at idle, you want a 4.0 in/Hg power valve.

Set the Holley up with .075 primary jets, .028" anti-pullover discharge nozzle on a black pump cam in position #2. Set the pump lever for .020" clearance with a feeler gague at WOT.

His Holley probably has a secondary metering plate instead of jets, so study the Holley book and buy the correct drill bits to enlarge the rear fuel metering orfices to a full 6 steps bigger than the front. If you have the rear metering block, just change the jets. Buy the secondary spring pack and use the 'purple' spring.

Use NGK WR-5 spark plugs gapped at .038" when you can find them and *always* use a Copper Core Coil Wire.

Just email me at 10851man@gmail.com if you need anything else....You will be impressed.

Hey Robert, a little more information. The motor seems to be all stock except for the holley 750 dp. He does not wish to change valve springs and rockers. Can he get away with his stock set up with the Isky 351270. He found out he has 3.89 rear gears and of course the 4 spd tranny. He also has the 50 pound intake manifold on the 390. I suggested that he get an aluminum dual plane intake but didn't know what to suggest. Eddy Performer or performer rpm. What kind of rpm shift point should be expected with that cam. He said he used to shift between 4500 and 5000.
I was also thinking about the Comp Cam 268H. What do you think? Its supposed to work with all stock parts. Thanks for your time. unfortunaley, the mechanic that is helping him is a just a parts changer. He was going to throw a big cam in that motor without changing springs rockers etc... James.

Hey Robert thanks for you input. Does these cam sound stock or does it have a little chopiness to it? I'm anxious to see how my friend mustang runs. Thanks, James

Hey Robert, I have a ford question for you and I know that you have some knowledge of ford motors. A friend of mine is going to get his 68 Ford mustang back on the road. This is his first car and it has a 390 in with 4/speed. The car has been sitting for awhile it does not have that many miles on it since it was rebuilt. he want to put a new cam in it. I have not seen the car but it has a dual plane intake and a 750 dp on it. Did the 390's have an adjustable valvetrain. What is the limit on lift with a non adjustable valvetrain? I've heared that 390's like to bend pushroads. He's been talking to mechanic on picking out a cam but I'm scared the mechanic is just going to throw in a big cam without considering, valve springs and rockers, etc..

Z Code 400 - I have been participating in your post on CP about the P350 build. If you are going to a hydraulic roller combo I have a nice 350HD cam for sale. It was in my 350HO for about 1500 miles and I will sell at a loss if you are interested.
    Good luck w/your build!
