Quote from a recent rant on medals
I spent two years in Vietnam and my website:
www.geocities.com/citydesk175/ is my ribbon set at the moment. If you visit my page you will see that I have not kept it up much recently but I still collect stuff to post eventually.
Part of my collection has been insignia and I can quickly read the ribbons on active duty soldiers. Medals/ribbons are a sticking point for me as on my last day in Nam my OIC told me "No medals!" I asked "Why?" "I have never seen you look neat." "We are in a combat zone!" "So? No medals!"
I have been angry since 1971 about this till I spoke with my former ncoic who told me that officer did it to everyone. Sigh..All those years of anger........ They were wonderful!
My favorite commentary on Military History is that in every memoir by a "grunt" he will mention his CO many times. My uncle mentioned a personal meeting with General McAullife in Bastogne. But NO General ever mentions an underling in his memoirs
