Shooting Ice Targets in Alabama
Ruger Mk II, regular Ruger 22 Rifle, Ruger 22 Magnum, Ruger 57, and Marlin 22
Paper at 15y, 2' x 10" thick Ice Puck (pieces now) at 25 Yards, 2' x 8" thick puck (pieces) at 50 Yards, 32 Gallon Puck at 90 Yards. hit it alot, yet saving it for tomorrow. 22 LR: Shot std velocity (1200 fps, 40 grain), then went 1640 fps (32 grain), then 1070 fps (40 grain). My preference is CCI STD velocity, 40 grain. Good-n-tight. Learned alot; all is good except my (Hawke) Rifle Scope got hurt in the Move, so need a new Scope (gonna look for Vortex). Rifle results without scope makes me wonder why i insisted on a scope. Last edited by Half-Inch Stud; 12-27-2022 at 07:20 PM. |

We have the same taste ... I've got a 10-22, a Ruger Single Six 22/22mag (in stainless) and the wife has a brandy new Mark IV Target model 40103 in SS ... very, very nice little gun.

Ahhhhh, the Mk IV. Hmmm yea your 22 series is quite nice! As for the highest-end, I'll never attain a 22 swift though.

I have a Ruger Standard (Mark I) pistol I bought in 1972 for $43. Always liked that pistol. I would like to get the MarkIV also.

10/22, Mark III 22/45, and a #1 Stainless in 30-06 here. Always loved Ruger firearms.
I would have gotten a Ruger Red Label O/U in 12 gauge, but my Browning Citori was just too good a deal.

Got a new wcope for the Ruger22 Rifle that just doesn't need a scope at 90 yards.
Well, okay now nibbling an ice block at 90 yards is fun-easy with a cadence. new "mini-Mach" rounds from CCI were for sale 300/$28. Got 2 boxes. They are 38 grain hollow copper with 1260 fps. Well a crisper note then STD velocity 40 grain Lead target rounds. Seem better at 90 yards in terms of hitting where intended. Probably better flight than lead. |

I'm a big fan of the Ruger 10/22. I have 2 of them. One is an old carbine (circa 1972) that still shoots great and a Ruger-Talo 10/22 Light Varmint target (heavy barrel) that is a tack driver. Great little guns and never a jam. I recently picked up a Henry Lever action 22 for shooting iron sights. Cool little rifle also. 22's are loads of fun.
