Great Junkyard in PA
My friend and I visited a great junkyard on Saturday, location is 477 Autumn Leaves Road, Starlight PA. 18461. For a quick reference this place is 5 min from the New York border at Hancock but still in PA. Dave Rapp was a fantastic guy to deal with with about 600 cars to buy parts from. Plus 3 barns full of engines and sheet metal. The great thing about this yard is the years and makes of the cars here. I only saw a few cars newer than 1980 and the oldest are in the teens. Just about all makes are there and he will sell whole cars if you want it. The man has a fantastic memory and knows what is in his yard, just ask. I saw Pontiacs, Olds, Buick, Cadillac, Hudson Studabaker, Chrysler, Plymouth,Ford, Mercury, Rover, MG, Jaguar, Desoto, and probably others I can't remember now. GM, Ford, Dodge,Hudson and Studebaker trucks there also. Scouts and Jeeps too. I looked at 2 1969 GTO's, one he said was a Judge at one time. Both were Auto cars and the one was an air condition car. I saw the Judges doors in another building. He sold the front fender last weekend, I would have liked to have that. Lot's of A body convertibles and big body GM cars. Couple of 1979 or 1980 Trans Ams, one with a complete 301 automatic drivetrain in the car. There are also quite a few 55-57 Pontiacs and Chevys. He holds onto the cars until there is literally nothing left to them.

We are going to have to go back up in a few weeks, my friend bought a few parts and he will have to pick them up. I will get a few pics then, I just never gave it a thought when we were there, in to much awe of what was there.

I can't go to yards like that ... it's too emotional for me, I want to save all of them

Might you know the weekend hours? Is this a U Pull or do you have to call ahead to inquire if he might have what you’re looking for?

Strange, I went on Google Earth and couldn't see it. You'd think that 600 cars would be visible, unless I missed something. Anyway, any junkyard that still has 64-72 A-body cars and parts is pure gold.

I’ve been near there fishing on the West Branch, maybe go there next time I’m in the area. A little over an hour from me.

Yep, it's there, look due north about a quarter mile from where the address is marked. Looks like a farm with several white buildings ... field north of there is full of cars ... you have to zoom in a lot to see them.
Any info on his hours, method of operation, he pulls parts, you pull them, etc. I ask because lots of yard owners are .. let's say "eccentric" . Last edited by dataway; 07-20-2020 at 05:31 PM. |

I did the same. Maybe could make out a few cars but not what I expected to see.

My little sister and her husband live in Montrose, maybe 25 miles west of Starlight, but they never mentioned the yard. Good excuse to take a 300+ mile ride in my GMC tomorrow!

Guy's, I would say call first and talk to Dave. This is a 2 person operation, Dave and his helper.

My '59 GMC and I did get to the yard today, in spite of the horrible washboard dirt roads- not helped by my missing a turn and getting lost in a maze of dirt roads! I was looking for remnants of a vacuum fuel pump/tank since the original for my 1917 Buick was long ago replaced by an electric pump. In the yard we found three big GMC truck relics from the twenties (all equipped with Buick inline engines) that still had their vacuum pumps in place! But I didn't buy one- I instead chose a less-rusty one of the 4 or 5 in a box in one of the barns!
Quite the amazing place. But I recommend driving there in something that handles washboard roads better than a '59 GMC does.

So... yesterday was good, today not so good. While signalling a left turn in the Buick a car sped past and took my left front wheel, fender, and front axle with him. The deputy said he will be charged with passing in a no-passing zone. But that ends my enjoyment of the car for this year.
