off hand, I'm not certain that 1974 had any.
I know that 1975+ used metal brackets which slid into grey wire clamps; I also know that 1969-1970 use metal brackets with rubber coatings on the ends where the wires were held, but off hand I cannot recall what, if any wire retainers were used between 1971 & 1974. Most of the engines I was fortunate enough to pick over in the last twenty years or so were 1975-1978 vintage... very few before that... But(!) just enough to score a full set and some extra parts for my own car! Hopefully if nothing else, this will prompt a response with pictures for you

that is exactly why I need pictures,the two styles you show are what I have and needed to know which is correct for my 74 trans am,......so you say early and late can you tell me where the break is,thx keith

I have no idea when the break happened, if it even did happen. It may have been two different suppliers of a similar piece. You would have to get answers from others with '74s (all models) to see if there was a pattern, as the engines were assembled at the engine plant not final assembly. But I would pick the ones with the ears as being correct for your vehicle timeframe.
