1973 D-port head bolt set?
Does anyone have a picture of what a 100% correct set of head bolts looks like for a 1973 Pontiac engine?
I have a schwack of head bolts, and am seeing variance from my understanding of correct-for-1970 headbolts versus what some latter year engines used. As an example, the 1972 engine I recently picked up has no less than sixx studded head bolts!? - I am thinking that someone put extra studded bolts on this engine, because to me the only studded bolts of any kind should be: 1) front drivers side head bolt - for battery cable. 2) short head bolts on drivers side for exhaust shroud. ... oh!! - I think I just thought of it!! **there were two studded head bolts per side for 1972 & prior engines for the separate rocker arm droppers - maybe those bolts were mistakenly put on the outside!!? I would like to get this straight for my brother's 1973 engine that is finally being re-assembled - my brother is insistent that we delivered the engine complete to the machinist, and never got back all the parts... Thanks in advance for sharing information and pictures!!

Six studded bolts is correct for an AC car , and a studded water pump bolt as well for NON 80 amp alt bracket.

Ok, how about this;
(picture courtesy of Wallace Racing) For head bolts A through E would any of these be studded? (For my 1970 engine, I believe that bolts, B, C, D were studded for the oil drippers.) I believe that bolt F (drivers side only) would be studded - as this is where the negative battery cable attaches. I believe that at least for the drivers side bolts G & I were studded for the exhaust heat shroud. I believe that bolt H was only studded on the passenger side if the enge had air conditioning. Am I correct on all counts?

Thats true, and the DS front had a ground cable ( Visible) but as mentioned, there are some inside for oil drippers

In 74 I believe the center upper bolts were not studded (no oil baffles) and I think 73 was the same?
(been a long time since I did a 73) Drawing of 77-78 bolt locations: Possibly the 73 to 77/78 same?

Seems like Lloyd may have made a diagram also for earlier heads?

There are also brackets attached to the valve cover bolts, if you're trying to be accurate. |

Unfortunate, but not too surprising in a 9+ year old thread . . .

Held for Ransom, please post the details for the brackets on the valve cover bolts. I am assuming these are for the wiring harness. I have several brackets and I need to know which are correct and how to orient them.
Thanks, Tom
