73 Hood Release
My 73 Formula has a cable pull release, I thought this car should have a release rod instead? The cable does work very well, which is why I think it was added by someone. What should it have for a hood release? Thanks

pggto, I'll swap you if you want a rod release type.
The PO that repaired front end damage with a '72 front end before I reacquired my '73 TA did me no favors. I have been slowly collecting parts to make it right, but the hood release mechanism has been elusive. You are lucky to have yours. I have a Parts Wanted ad looking for the '73 cable release set up. But have gotten no replies. |

All the latches themselves are the same 70-81

True, but locating the pin and cable assy. is difficult. I wish I had known about that when I pulled this setup. But I know if I sell it, a '73 will come up for me to purchase, needing it.

HFR, Thanks for the picture. I'll have to see if I'm missing any parts. The hood release works fine for the primary latch, but it won't release the secondary one. I have to reach through the grill with a hook shaped tool to pull the hood release lever so it will release.

Look for bad or missing parts, usually the grommets. I think one has to pull the cable twice to release the hood all the way up. |

Might be just an ill-aligned latch.

It may be catching again before it clears the secondary latch.

I think I found my problem. I take it the cable guide should be mounted. Looks like it needs to be mounted to the core support center support. Is the cable release in the correct location? Thanks

Looks like it's not going thru the guide. Picture courtesy Pepi.

Times 2 on what HFR said.
In your 1st pic, the cable should go through that hole in the upright support. (has the plastic grommet)

Thanks! That picture helps a lot, because the way it is now it just pulls the cable pretty much straight down.

Are the grommets available as repros?

No, however this task could be done, on a as needed basis, by a good 3D printer, in strong Nylon, with a good original, once one is scanned..
