Default New Power Plant

Here's something I'm putting together.
Now I have to make a decision -- What car to put it in.

I see that is a 5 bolt motor mount block. Can you tell me what the date code is and the casting number of that 2 bolt main block. It is a 400 3" main block?

Thanks

Pull the oil pan back off and take the Windaus tray off before it takes out the motor.

agree...that style (factory piece) has caused more issues than they resolve... get something better!

Hmmm... maybe its a "557" casting as well... seems caps look small and maybe the bore under-cuts above dowel area too... I see 4 eyebrow pistons as well.

Perhaps this is only a mock-up?

Factory windage trays suck? Can you elaborate on problems that can cause and what will be better instead? Thanks

Factory trays break and end up in the oil pan.
The 3/4 and full length trays are made from a lighter ga steel than the #5 455 3/4 tray.
The tomahawk would be a better alternative, since its made from a heavier ga than the #5 or stock tray.
I prefer leaving it off and use a baffled pan and or a scraper.

At 8 psi with a turbo I hurt bearings in a stock bottom end, same pistons, trw forged. compression will have to be below 9 to be safe. I had a detonation issue.
What is that white stuff on the rods?

The motor is a 1975-400, 988 casting and 60 over TRW's.
The white stuff is a white moly grease for engine assm.
It's pretty good stuff and stay's on the bearing surface and don't
run off like oil will over a period of time. I got a picture of it here
And you can get it at your local NAPA.
Yes them are cast rods and a set of 4X heads that someone Ported
for some reason unknown to me but they are the big chambers so
It work out for me, The compression is 7:87:1 it's a 8.71 blower
With holley carbs that are boost referenced and nitras injected.
I punished this motor with n20 for about 5 years and didn't hurt it.
It's pretty tuff so I thought I would throw the blower on it.
This is about the most cheapest build and the lightest as for lite
duty parts as can be. LOL If you see a big glow over in Mich. you'll
know what it was.
The blower pulley tooth count is 59 and 61 does anyone have a percent
of what this might be and maybe the boost it could make.
This stuff is new to me and if I like it I'll build a good motor for it.

You will be safe with that low compression, I now a turbo guy who has mostly stock stuff running 12psi for 5 years. ARP bolts would be nice though! It will be fun.

With those factory cast rods in there I would cringe and my ass would pucker every time I got on it. It may be a budget build but all for naught if a rod puts a window in the block.
