Thanks for posting the information Mike. I think the 70 Ram Air IV GTO was/is owned by someone here on the PY forums. I have never seen it in person, but it looks like a top notch restoration. Me personally, I don't care for the bench seat and dog dish wheels. Wheels would be an easy fix. Getting buckets and a console would be more difficult. All in all, I am really impressed with what I see. I don't think this was the car's first auction.

Looks like late 70's Trans Ams are on the rise.

The SE TA was a 4 speed?

Plus you got a signed script from Smokey and Bandit movie too!

69 GTO. Not very nice. Did have round port motor don't know if original. 70 GTO RAIV. Stunning car. 71 red 455HO bird was another quick garage quality restoration not a nice car. Don't be fooled the late stuff goes because it's affordable. The bandit car was ok but far from perfect overpaid in my opinion. The red 69 convert was not a very nice car and went for more than it should. Overall the auction was full of poor garage restorations that were at or below driver quality. IMHO

Yes, it was a 4-speed. My mistake in the posting above when I listed it as an automatic.

I missed my morning caffeine.

The signed script probably boosted the final price by a few thousand. In reality, the signed script is probably worth $100, but the bidders get caught up in the moment, and the signed script was the icing on the cake. And it's listed as a "Bandit" car.

That Pepper Green 1970 RAIV GTO has gone through Mecum before without selling. I've seen the car in person a few times, and it's perfect. They always estimate it will bring $100K-$120K, but it falls in the $70K-$80K range. Perhaps this is the ceiling for 1970 RAIV GTO 4-speed cars, I don't know. This could be a case where the color and lack of options may be holding it back. Many of these big auction, big money bidders seem to favor loaded cars nowadays over the bare bones, no frills look. I also wonder if the car were Cardinal Red if it would have cracked $100K.

Yes there was!

This 1965 Catalina 389 tri-power 4-speed was discussed in another forum. Two owner car, believed to be 58,000 miles. Bid to $40K, no sale.

1965 Bonneville 421 Tri-Power, sold for $25,500.

I had read that Butler's 1,200 HP Firebird would be at auction. Have you seen it?

At the same auction we saw two Ford GTs go for $635K combined, a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda go for $185,000, and even an ’86 Buick GNX raking in more than the Pontiac at $97,500.

Went to auction to see those cars. People watching was even more fun. Dumb money running around...

Lots of candy money to spend on a 2006 GT. Same rare car sold earlier for less, and one could have bought off lot 8 years ago for even less with a 100 k Mark up?

Does that make sense?

Seems like a nice deal there. I shudder to think how little my '71 GTO is probably worth in comparison as that appears to be a nicely restored car there.

Car is missing the rocker trim and someone added rear wheel well trim... Kinda a hokey IMO. Looks nice otherwise. Wonder if its a real 421TP car???

The Bonneville has the 356 HP middle Tri Power engine recognized by the large air cleaner and the standard exhaust manifolds. The 376hp H-O gets the individual air cleaners and the long branch. Note, the car is missing the Bonneville trim; lower rocker, door moldings and rear quarter molding. My guess id the rear wheel lip molding is correct for Bonneville and those missing rocker moldings cover the lower exposed portion. Catalina, and 2+2 have long rear wheel lip moldings that go to the bottom.

The Bonneville may not be correct wo the lower side trim, but it looks a h**l of a lot better wo it (IMO). Don't really car for the lower beltline trim on the Cats either.

I agree, that is good money for that Bonneville. I personally don't like the $1600 recast steering wheel, the recovered dash pad, the stance. and guessing it would cost another $5000 for the lower trim. That being said, overall, it does looks like things were nicely done.

Can't believe the 4spd cat did not sell at $40k
