My old car becomes a movie prop
I sold my 72 Le mans a few years ago to a movie car business in los angeles area and has been in a few tv shows, movies and I am starting to regret it. Here's few pics of then and now. The recent shows it was in were TV series daybreak, movie justified. Been couple more. The car is really starting to look beat up. Here's a link of what it looks like right now

I dont think I would want to buy it back even if they would let me. I would have to fix the body and the package tray that they cut out of it.

That kinda sucks that they would tear up a nice car.

Sure hope you're getting paid more than it will cost to fix it. I would never do that.

Why would you sell it to a movie company of all places? They don't give a @#$% about cars. I don't mean to come across as a jagoff but you would have to expect them to not be kind to your beloved.

I'm trying to wrap my head around why they would buy a nice LeMans and then primer it. Surely there isn't a shortage of beat up looking old cars?

Damn shame to tear up a car that was in such good shape.
I see they have a 64, 65, and 66 GTO.

Not so sure about all of the angst - it's their business that they are pulling in $350+ PER DAY for the use of said vehicle Le Mans for movies, commercials, etc.
IIRC - saw a Velocity Channel program with how the "Movie Car" company business operates. They paint them up, damage them, etc. as requested for use in various Hollwood productions. They're now like "Rent-A-Wreck" fleet vehicles made to order. Check these out: http://picturecarwarehouse.net/cars/1970s/ |

The car was originally a 350 two barrel with aftermarket ac.
When I was selling the car on craigslist the guy that owns picturecarwarehouse calls me and says he wants the car and could I drive it down to Los Angeles. I said no if you want the car you will have to pick it up from me up here in the San Jose area. The whole time i'm thinkin what kind of bs is this. Well then we set up a time for the next weekend to pickup a cousin that he sends on a flight to san jose. I get a call on the following saturday to pick the guy up at the airport and I proceed to sell the car to him. I asked him why did they the car? He said they wanted for a new fall TV series and that was going to be the scene car and there was going to be a doublecar for action shots. If you look on there website there is a luxury lemans paited similar to it. Now it kinda looks my old car is becoming the stunt car. Oh well what can you do now |

A friend of mine owns the actual 68 Grand Prix that was used in the movie "Goodfellas". To this day he is sorry he let them use it. When he got the car back it was scratched, dinged, the trunk was wet, and the package tray was ruined.

The trunk was wet becuase they had to wash out all of the fake blood. They shot a guy multiple times in the trunk of that car. I dont let anyone drive my cars. |
