Neat find while removing carpet out of '70 car
Here's a neat story to share with everyone. I bought a '70 Chevelle to flip from out west that I stumbled across. No seats in it so I was cleaning out the junk and carpet getting it ready to show to buyers last week. The floors were really solid so I removed the sticky black sound deadener to show them off. Under a black piece was a 1970 quarter placed in sort of a indentation in the floor on the passenger side. I thought it was a dirty washer at first. If you were sitting in the car, it would be approximately under your left knee. I am very confident this car has never been restored.
I think it was put there on build day. Car is a March car so there should have been plenty of '70 quarters available. Anyone ever heard of such a thing? The buyer got "three" original 1970 quarters with this car!!! |

I was gonna ask for a photo of the quarter, but since you sold it with the Chevelle I guess that's out.
The condition of the ridges around the rim would have been a good idicator if the coin was 'new' when placed in the floor pan. Of course someone could have placed a low circulation quarter in there anytime in the last 40 years, but it would narrow the odds down if the one you found wasn't worn at all. |

I pulled a 1971 quarter out of the floor of my 71 Firebird...same deal, never restored.
That quarter sits on the computer monitor pedestal in my study...I'm trying to figure a cool mount for it back in the car now it's finished.

I found a '66 quarter in one of my '66 cars. Saved it, but not sure it is 'mint'. Maybe they just gravitate there.

Under the tar paper insulation in my car I found the classifieds from the Dallas Times Herald from May 17, 1968 - the day my car was built.

Line workers threw stuff into the cars as they were being built.
Saw it everyday on the Framingham line in 1972 through 1974. Bolts, soda cans, you name it. If you have a car with a rattle, it is probably something that was thrown into the car. I liked Coke cans.... |

I've heard that people have found tools, beer bottles, and condoms in their new cars.... in many various places.
When I was hauling new cars out of the GM plants I'd find all sorts of stuff on the carpets and in the trunks. I've also heard it depended on the day of the week and/or the shift. Plus.... how sober they were on the 3rd shift in the plant.

I used to have a 72 Chevy pick up. I found a dime, a quarter and .44 shell casing. Going to make a key fob out of the shell casing for my Poncho.

I found newspaper in between the inner fender and fender of my 78 T/A when I tore it down. It was from the same week that was on build sheet. it was in bad shape since it was almost behind the air extractor but a cool find anyways.

Man, you guys have no luck, condoms!!!!!
I found these in the trunk of a 69 Delta 88 I bought from my brother in law. They were in the quarter panel by the wheel well behind a factory cardboard panel. My brother in laws grandfather bought the car new and when he passed my sister in law got the car. They had it for over a year and never found them. No there not silver!

I found a pot plant growing out of the carpet of a 66 GTO I bought for parts when I was a kid. It was only an inch tall. I guess a weed will grow anywhere.
