2000 rpm? Yes, it's called locking out the mechanical advance. I can see 2500 but why would you want it all in by 2000?

Likely wont do diddly @ the track, sorry Rich.
Most converters typically flash stall higher than that RPM anyways,so in most cases you'll already be "all in" after launching anyways, thus is the primary logic behind why many racers "lock out" their distributors. If you had a data logger on the car,you would likely be able to see that the RPM will almost never be less than that 3000 RPM during a good solid run,at least not if the car is set-up properly. Distributor curves are for "off idle" (ie: street) driving. HTH Bret P. |

I helped a guy setup an MSD programmable 6AL-2 this weekend and it looks to me like this would be really cool for tuning a drag car. Basically you lock the mechanical advance and set the distributor at the maximum deirable timing. Then you program a retard curve into the box that tells the box how much later to fire at any given rpm. So you can have your "centifugal" advance curve any way you want it. You can also dial in more or less total by just reflashing the box with your laptop. Don't even need to raise the hood.
