Antiques Roadshow
I was lucky enough to attend the Antiques Roadshow at Myrtle Beach yesterday. I registered for tickets months ago and won a set. My mother-in-law also signed up and received a pair of tickets. I attended with my wife, mother-in-law and 3 daughters. We were allowed 2 items each and brought an antique doll, a 12 setting china set, a vintage Mickey Mouse clock, a pair of pencil sketch portraits of the wife's great great grandparents, an urn, a Chinese shell picture and a 1649 book. Nothing was extremely valuable and we won't make it to the highlight reel, but we did have a great time. The 1649 book was found to be bearing it's original cover and is worth around $300. The Mickey Mouse clock, which features moving eyes and tail, is from the early 70's and is worth 150-180 dollars. We had a great time and it was neat to see how they pull off a show with all the stuff and people. The coolest things I saw were a Civil War Northern rifle with bayonet (worth 2-3 thousand), and a very old and large (6 X 4) oil painting worth 250k.

I went to the Roadshow in St. Paul back in 2005. I brought a Plains Indian war club that had been my dad's, it was pretty valuable but it didn't get me on TV. It was interesting to see all the stuff other people brought, although the crowd was huge so we waited in line for several hours to get in.

I've always wanted to go to that show. I've got a bunch of antiques that I'm curious about. Hardest thing would be trying to decide what to take.

It's been one of my favorite PBS shows for as long as it's been on.
I'm always amazed how the experts know so much about the real oddities that get evaluated. |

I watch it all the time. They ought to just hold a show at my house.

They actually do...or did...have a spinoff of the show like that. The two guys that are twins, whose names I can't remember, would go to someone's house and evaluate pretty much everything in the house that the owner's were curious about.

They are the Keno Brothers. They are also on the Anitques Roadshow and their specialty is evaluating furniture.

Yes I have seen the show and I just love the twins. I cant let them come over cause if they mentioned a large number on something I have the wife would holler SOLD like she does when watching the show.

I caught the end of one the other night and they are re-running shows from the 90's and giving current updates to some of the values. One of the items was a small table the Keno brothers appraised that the woman had bought at a tag sale for $30. They showed it later at a Southeby's auction where it went for close to half a million!
