Starting my Restoration
Finally made the plunge and started to work on the 70, now that I have a new roof to work on it Got the interior out, except the headliner, all the window reveals off, and the rear bumper section and brackets off.
Is there a special tool for removing the drip rail moulding? Dont want to tear it all up. Also, looking through the assembly manual, looks like there are two brackets that hold the bottom of the valance to the body near the gas tank filler neck, which my car doesn't have. There are two tabs on the bottom valance edge that had nothing there. Now I need to find them. Looks like 70 -72 Pontiac A bodies would've had them, at least if they had a valance. Posted in the wanted section. Can somebody post a pic of what they look like on the car?

I had saved these pics a while ago related to the rear valance panel bracket. On the 70's I've had through the years, it seems this bracket is either missing or bent up. Probably four or five years ago, I bought the aftermarket rear valance panel bracket kit that is available from some of the suppliers but the brackets in the kit didn't look anything like the original bracket.

On the '70 GTO there are two tabs on the rear valence for the lower valence brace but from the factory they only used one on the passenger side.

Rear valance pics.
http://www.forums.maxperformanceinc....d.php?t=403063 As to the drip rail molding, most people will use a "church key" (another name for an old bottle opener) and carefully pry it off. |

Hey Jason, I will be following along with many of your "70 Judge resto" posts cause I just decided to finally do the same thing....frame-off restoration of my mint turquoise Judge...I've only put it off for about 15 years cause she's always been such a nice "show/driver"....wish me luck

judgeman, sounds like you're already ahead of the ball with a "show/driver". Mine's barely a driver sheet metal pretty crusty, especially on the rear quarters and trunk. Floors have a couple of holes, but wont require pans, just patches. Originally and Indianna car. Its going to take me a while, I can only get to it when I'm on vacation.
Just got the rechromed bumper assembled with tailights with all the original brackets cleaned up, came out pretty good.

Got the motor, trans, and gas tank out today. Found another build sheet on top of the gas tank! Looks like part of another cars sheet was stuck with mine.
Now I have a ton of stuff to clean up.

John, it was built in Pontiac. The floor coat is mainly red oxide primer, the picture may be deceiving.

Actually, I wonder if the sound deadener did that and made it look like red primer? You can see grey in the grooves.

I had a 70 Judge from the Pontiac plant (same color scheme) and it had the same look on the floors.

Never should of sold it, a mint low mileage one owner car, original exhaust, spark plug wires etc (he added the sport mirrors in 1970 when the 71's came out). It was only registered from 70-73 then stored in a heated dry garage for 28 years ,I sold it in 2002 because it was an automatic.

John, if you still had it, I'd trade even for my 4spd That sure was a gem, beautiful car.

Got the transmission and linkage done! Ram Air IV block is getting cleaned and magged. Last pic is the original trans when pulled from the car.

That looks nice. I assume that you have the original shifter. I believe the date code is May 1970. Would that date make sense?

The original 4555 shifter stick is being replated. 050= May 1970, makes sense to me! Since the trans is a supercase M22 with cast midplate, I figured I'd go with a correct but not original, restored shifter to go with it. I want something beefy to go behind the ram air IV.
