Tri-Power Intakes?
Are the '60s Tri Power intakes pretty much a bolt on replacement for all 389 through 455 V-8 compatible Pontiac heads? I know about the thermostat housing but anything else?
I want to replace the Edelbrock square bore single plane that's on my '66 which has a '71 YS 400 with the standard heads. Thinking that if I have to get another intake, I may as well at least consider a tri-power in case I come across one at an affordable price... I'd kinda like to know for sure that it's a plug and play deal.

Greg, The 65 and 66 tripower intakes will bolt up to your 400 and all other Pontiac heads up to 79. Bolts patterns are different for 64 and older intakes. That's why they are cheaper when you find them.

the 65 and 66 intakes will bolt up to heads up thru about 79 but after 73 the crossover will leak.
The 66 flows a bit more CFM because the center carb is a bit bigger. I'm not sure they will keep up with a well built 428 or 455. Some claim they wont. That being so you may want to save your money and get an aftermarket set up. Nobody will cry if you modify one of those. They do look nice |

I'd love to have a tripower for this car but at today's prices, it's probably going to have to be one of those barn finds or yard sale 'deals of a lifetime' for me to get one.
