You don't need to make this from old sheet metal, they make the piece for the Chevelle, it's 90% the same, it differs where the panel connects with the quarter panel, they need to be cut and a little fabrication needs to be done, not alot. It will save a body man many, many hours, and you money. I uploaded a few photos, I got mine from Ron Johnson at Potomac Classic Pontiac in Frederick Md, he is the only one I know of recommending this, maybe he knows something others don't, I'm glad I used these panels.

Don,
He's a 1 man show with a warehouse full of parts, he is not super fast at replying, I recommend calling him, when he gets super busy, he takes the phone off the hook, so just keep calling either early or late in the day is best. My bet is, he gets the parts from YearOne, but I'm not sure, check with their web site has for the Chevelle. Scott |

Scott,
I NEED any updates to this thread, if you have any, ASAP. Painter has uncovered problems that require these to be cost effective. Thanks, Charles |

What kind of updates? Ron at Potomac Classics is the one who sold me mine, they are for a Chevelle, so I would think places like National Parts Depot, OPG, etc.. would sell this part. The Chevelle part gets the narrow last inches trimmed off, that's the difference between the Chevelle and the GTO, but it gives you the important sides and glass are, my resto guy said it saved him a lot of fabrication hours. As I stated earlier, Ron is tough to get hold of, but it's worth the effort. He does return phone calls and is often available mid morning, maybe around 10-11 EST, it's in the afternoon he takes the phone off the hook so he can get his orders ready to go out. I'm not defending his business practices, but it's worth the hassle to get his knowledge. If he dosent get what your describing, tell him he sold them to Scott Martindill for his 67 GTO restoration last year, he knows me and that should rattle his brain a bit. I did get Ron on the phone, finally, after I posted this. Waiting on him to contact me in return.

I have had a call back from Ron @ Potomac Classic and he has one side piece and the deck filler in stock. He will have the other side in a couple of days and will ship then.
More to follow, Charles |

Got the parts from Ron Johnson last week. Great guy to deal with.
They are Dynacorn parts, good stuff. I believe thicker gauge than NOS. Deck panel looked AND fit like NOS part! Side panels were a wrap around part for Chevelle. Not an exact fit, but WAY better than building corner pieces from scraps and even at $69 a side, much more cost effective than paying my painter's time to build them. After blasting. Here's what the parts look like out of the box. $120 for GTO window filler, and $69 a piece for Chevelle wing patches. Rear window panel in place. Tweaking the quarter panel fit after removing old part. Old part and new panel were EXACT same dimensions. Left side patch. Top shot. Right side patch. Top shot. Had to tweak the side pieces to get the right basic shape of the GTO sail contour, and still need to be truly fitted to the chrome moulding before final stage. We are at this stage after only six hours of time, much better than of paying hourly wages for 3 or 4 days! May still need a bit of filler on the side pieces to match the curve to the chrome, but I am very pleased so far. Going to be replacing the drains in the corners, that I had originally done 30 years ago, just to be sure. Hope this helps some of you guys out there, Charles Last edited by Old Goat 67; 12-20-2009 at 11:50 AM. |
