Hey there,

I have some aftermarket "Centerline" type wheels made my Modern (inside rim says Ultimate Wheel Co. but I can't find them on the Web); see link in sig for a pic. I'd like to get some wider replacement BFG T/A's and I'm wondering if the following sizes will fit...

Current:
Front: P235/60R14 14x7
Rear: P235/60R15 15x7 or 8 (nearest I can tell they are 15x8's)

Back Spacing (measured per this guide):
Front: 4"
Rear: 3.5"

BFG's I want to purchase:
Front: P245/60R14
Rear: 255/60R15 or P275/60R15s if they'll fit.

Per the BFG T/A Tire Sizes chart:
P245/60R14 or 15 fits 7.0 - 8.5" rims
P255/60R15 fits 7.0 - 9.0" rims (No P255 for 14's)
P275/60R15 fits 7.5 - 9.5" rims

It looks like P245's for the front will fit on my 14x7 rim, but with a 4" backspacing will I have any issues with rubbing?

Likewise, if I have 15x8's, it also look like P275's for the rear will fit on the 15x8 rim, but with a 3.5" backspacing will I have any issues rubbing? If it turns out I have 15x7's in the rear and/or P275's are too wide, I'd still like to go with the P255's if possible.

Thanks for any advice!

Jim.

Jim,

I think that you are going to be really tight in both front and rear.

The vehicle came stock with 4.5 inches backspace. With 4 inch backspace on the front with an 8 inch tread width you will be doing some scrubbing. On the back you only have 3.5 inches of backspacing on a tire that is 11 inches wide on the tread. I don't think that you will be able to get the tire under the wheel opening.

B-Man has some really wide 17" tires on his Tempest and I believe that he has either used 4.5 ot 5 inch backspacing.

I really think that you are going to be unhappy with this set up.

Good luck

Thanks lil64. I measured my front P235's and they are 9.25" from the inside "bulge" to the outside. My conversion calculator confirms this when I go from mm to inches:

235mm = 9.25"
245mm = 9.65" (.4" wider than my P235's)
255mm = 10.04" (.79' wider)
265mm = 10.43"
275mm = 10.83"
285mm = 11.22"
295mm = 11.61

255's are just a tad over 10" wide in the rear while 275's are approaching 11". Since the 245's are less than 1/2" wider than what I'm running now, I'm thinkin' they'll work for the front with a 4" BS?

Yeah, 275's may be pushing it for the rear. However, the 255's are only little over 3/4" wider. Plus, both you and B-man have '64's and I have a '69. Wouldn't all of this make a difference?

Thanks!

Jim.
