Need LED indicator bulb for 68 Hurst dual gate shifter
I'd like to put a brighter indicator bulb in my 68 Hurst dual gate shifter that disperses the light as evenly as possible. The bulb in there right now is a GE 1893 and I'd like to use an LED bulb as a replacement. What has successfully filled this bill?
Thanks Old Joe

I recently did that swap ... just searched for LED equivalents for the 1893, I think I used a Sylvania from Rock Auto. Looks nice too.

Tons of them come up when I did a search, so I just picked Amazon as one example. Here are about a dozen of them in different styles and brands.

Dataway, I'm have trouble figuring out exactly which bulb you bought from Rock Auto. If you should find the part number and can share it, I would appreciate it. Old Joe

Actually after searching my orders it looks like I purchased these for the shifter, glove box, radio, etc. If I recall correctly the only place I didn't like them was the feed for the ash tray light fiber optic feed. LED was not omni-directional enough for that application.

Yep, LEDs to some degree still seem hit and miss. I've had name brands fail, and cheap ones work great, and vice-versa.

My experience they can all be a little sketchy at times, it's just a hit and miss game when you're looking at the little cheap replacement bulbs, which is why I gave you a list to pick from.
I don't feel there is any one brand better than the other as far as life expectancy, you just roll the dice. There are certain types that I prefer over others just for their light output quality, but no guarantee they'll last 6 days or 6 years. It's all pretty much good ole china made stuff. |
