I had a 79 WS6 W72 T/A that was an oddity. It had an electrical cord hanging out the front. The owner had no idea what it was for. It took me a while to figure out what it was. I have no ideal why anybody would order a block heater for a car sold new in SC.

Not a block heater, I wish it had some photos of the set up (I was shocked)

The car had a hd option of some sort and it was tied into the optional gear ratio
3.23 insted of the 2.56

The oil filter housing had provisions for threaded metal tubes 1/2 diameter from memory, the went into a special rad which had an oil cooler facing the front bumper on the same tank as the trans cooler, this was factory and not some
Back yard special

Fast car

No ac

It was dark blue on black delux vinyl with t tops and ws6

The trans shifted hard into second gear and the tires would chirp, I later called the seller to ask about the car. He was the original owner and I was positive he had the transmission modified, he said it was never touched.

So watch out for those special 6.6 litre olds, they may give the t/a a run for the money

Just for the record.....They DO exist.

I've seen several of them...over the years....kind of an oddball...but COOL 403 option...

I believe the standard gear set for a 403 in a T/A was 2:75.......If you checked the box for the optional gear set.....3:23's is what you got.....and am guessing that Dr. Oldsmobile spec'd an engine oil cooler with that gear set.

It's a very similar deal to the OE trans cooler....in the right side radiator tank.....but the lines feed to the front side of tank instead.

A friend of mine has owned their 79 403 TA since 81.....Done some work on it...over the years....and I gotta say....with that 3:23 rear gear.....and true dual exhaust....it pulls just as strong...as a W72...

I did pull the build sheet...and believe it IS listed there....the 3:23's are,for sure.

I have a copy of it here,somewhere...

I had so many trans ams back then, I was buying several a month.

This 6.6 litre was special, I would take four buddies out for lunch with it and I could smoke the tires

From the archives...

The rad support was rotten out under the battery.....but the rest of the car was still very respectable.

You can see the fittings on the right radiator tank..

The standard rear gear ratio for '79 403 Bird was 2.41.
With 8" wheels and AC, 2.73's, that is what was under all the 403 equipped 10th Anniversarys.
With no AC and 403, the 3.23 was avail, just a very rare sight, ESP in the South.

My Dad ordered a solar gold '79 403 T/A w 2.41's for my Mom. It would not get out of its own way at a stoplight. at a 70 mph roll it pulled fair to decent. Good buddy owned a red 403 '79 with 2.41's, he immediately dropped the cat converter & we ordered & installed an HO Power kit for the Q-jet. Was like night & day difference.

That's it, look at those small diameter tubes. I was optimistic at 1/2 inch, could be 3/8

Apparently BJ is changing their docket around because this 70 TA 4-speed just showed up for Saturday night. Looks like it goes a little early on Saturday and is surrounded by mundane cars on the docket at that time, so hard to say how that will reflect the price.

But other than it appears to sit a little high, it's a very nice example, color, and nice options. I like it.

I would think if a 70 TA was going to set the bar, that would be a good one to watch. Nice colors, AC and 4-speed is pretty cool. Not to mention it's very nicely done.

Not much else appears to have changed for Saturdays docket. At prime time there are 2 Pontiacs, a 70 RA IV judge, and a 71 judge convertible that should bring some money. They are being sold around a group of high dollar cars, the only ZL1 Camaro built with chambered exhaust, some Shelby mustangs, a couple of Boss 429's, an LS6 convertible and an L88 vette.
So these Pontiacs are surrounded by good company. Going to be an expensive couple of hours, lol.

I guess BJ must have heard us

They have also added this one for Fridays docket. Kind of early in the day but......not sure why they can't seem to get the ride heights correct on these things.
