Default 1970 TA Lower Quarter to Rear Tail

I am helping a friend do some work on a 1970 T/A. Got a new tail panel for it, got the old one all cut out and everything under it is good except...The passenger lower quarter where it wraps around the back of the car and attaches to the inner tail panel. Looks like the quarter repair panels don't include the area that wraps around and attaches to the tail panel. Is this part made at all or am I stuck trying to make this some how?

I'd say,if what you need is not part of the repo tail panel or rear quarter...you are going to be fabricating....be thankful for that tail panel....wasn't too long ago,you couldn't buy one...

dont know if I did the link right but I think these might be the extentions if they are the same for firebird. I hope the inner brace is the same cause I will need it for future project.

there is an inner panel that goes across the rear of the car just like the outer. problem is, they are discontinued and no one repoes them.

Default parts

if you can look in a parts manual or perhaps someone can post the page..you will see whats involved and how the pieces fit togther..I can not tell by the photo, but when you removed the tail panel did you separate it from the inner panel?...because it looks as though the inner panel is still on and the ends are rusted gone...the more you take off, the less you have to work with...when I had new GM quarters installed...I chose not to remove the rear panel because you open yourself up to a lot of work...my inner bracket is rusted...if yours is still on..just use what you got..the tail panel is not going to fall off once its welded on!

That patch ( quater)panel does NOT make the correct end to meet with the tail panel. It needs a bent in edge to mate properly and have a correct "seam". Also the patch panel does NOT let the parking light bezel fit in correctly, and you should test fit that. ( there are 4 and each one is different so you must test the RR bezel)
Often doing body work we look for "more new metal" but it isnt always best....
will take some craftsmanship but Im sure youll get it. If its any consolation, one of my birds needs that corner addressed...

Default 1970 to 73 full quarters

When they finally come out with 1970 to 1973 full quarters, no longer must anyone suffer from this...should have been out so long ago...

Yea unfortunately I got into this after someone else started hacking it up and putting on the quarters so it is not done like it should be. He cut off that rear corner of the original quarter and threw it away!!!

So I have to deal with what I got. I did separate the tail panel from the inner brace when removing it. The drivers side corner is all their so I have an idea of what it is suppose to look like, I can make it but it would be way easier to have something to start with.

That inner tail panel posted above doesn't look the same for some reason, hard to tell from the pictures if the extensions would work or not.

Wish these were available right now, I need them. Parts for the second gen Camaro are plentiful, I.E. full quarters etc. IMO the 70-73 Firebird is a much better looking compared to the 70-73 Camaro.

Formula bruce picked up the problem..your repop partial quarters..the tail panel repop is a GM copy..when you fit that piece on you will see all the sin...1970 to 73 full quarters would prevent this...you do not neeed any Camaro parts posted..work with what you have..and alot of Bondo!!!!..then undercoat the heck out of it!...or wait till the quarters come out?..good luck!!

I did this on my Car and I had an NOS outer Tail Panel. Those small Camaro
extensions are not correct, however similar small corner pieces were used.
You will need to fabricate, as that area will get sprayed with water and salt
from the wheel opening back to that corner. At the very least weld some patches
in there and seal it well when done. I found that fitting the Tail Panel correctly
was the only way to line the Quarters, and you would think this would be the
reverse. Also on the upper part of the tail panel there
are two small filler pieces just inside the Tail light openings, that are also needed.
Be sure they are in place, and they are not reproduced. Hope this helps, I found
that portion of my restoration to be very challenging, so hang in there, it will work
out in the end, but lots of welding and fitting is needed.
