Pontiac Engine to Chevy manual bellhousing
Can I just use an adapter to mate the two? Plan to eventually swap to an "LS" engine, but I want to install the manual setup as an intermediate step.
I only see adapters for automatics, but I'm assuming that's because they have integrated bellhousings unlike a manual. Will this cause any issues having the plate sandwiched between?

It would move the tranny back and input shaft might not engage pilot bushing enough.

On my 428 engine, the Muncie input shaft protrudes about 7/16" on through the pilot shaft bushing and it would be about the same with a pilot bearing meaning that an adapter plate no thicker than 7/16" would still allow full engagement of the pilot shaft with bushing or bearing.
