421 SD rods
Any one really good with IDing these rods?
I have many of these rubber forged ones, but two other ones I have check out to be 90% of the way to being SD rods. On these two the big end width is .985" like a SD rod. The rod bolt bosses are the taller type like a SD should be . The GM in the I beam is more pronounced then the rubber rods, but still not as highly definded as I have seen in photos of SD rods. The machined nut pad on the cap of the rod is like a rubber rod, not a SD rod, so what gives here? Thanks in advance for any help!

Yes, they are not quite 2" , but none the less longer / taller than the standard production rubber rods.
Is your GM in the I beam very well defined?

I attached a picture of a 63 Super Duty rod. Are you guys measuring the bolt boss the same way?

Yes Paul that is how I am doing it, and mine read a few thousands less then 2" ,and I see your GM stamping looks kind of like how it looks on my two rods, but the G on mine is much much more defined and the M is better than on yours but not as good as the G is on mine.
That rod you show has been confirmed as testing in hardness like a SD rod should Paul, if so could you post up a shot of how the nut pad is cut on the cap ?

I just checked my nos rods. The bolt boss is 1.998 ,crank end is .985 ,and the GM is very well defined.I remember reading years ago the SD bolt boss is 2 1/16 but all 10 of mine are 2" or less.I tried to add a picture but no luck.

Thanks Paul, as that is the shot I needed!
I guess I really need to get those two rods tested for hardness even though I had got them years ago with a SD block with a 990 Crank in it!
