Default FS: 1989 Chevy Camaro IROC-Z hardtop 350 TPI

Posting this for a friend.

1989 Chevy Camaro IROC-Z hardtop. 124,000 miles. Blue with black deluxe cloth interior. Factory L98 350 TPI car with TH700R4 automatic, 4-wheel disc and 9-bolt 2.77 ratio positraction rear end. Level 3 option car with A/C, cruise control, power windows, door locks, mirrors, driver's seat, and antenna, rear defog, roll-up rear cargo shade.

Original L98 long block replaced with '92 Z28 L98 long block in 2008 that had approx 100K miles. Complete Fel-Pro gasket kit along with AC Delco spark plugs, wires, transmission TV cable, and remanufactured MAF sensor installed at the same time. New catalytic converter and radiator installed about a month ago. New tires installed in 2009 and have less than 10K miles. Previous owner had new exhaust and struts/shocks installed in 2006.

Paint is in fair condition with some delamination in spots that is typical of light colors on 1980's cars. Body is very solid but the driver's side floor board is beginning to get soft at the pinch weld seam at the toeboard.

Interior is in good condition with no fading or chalking on the plastics. Head liner fabric is falling down and this is a small tear in the side bolster on the driver's seat.

Asking $3200 or best offer. Car is located near Marshall, WI. You can call him at (608) 219-1557.

Don't you mean it has a 10 bolt rear and not a 9 bolt?

What do you mean the floor is starting to get soft? Rust?

No. '85-89 Firebirds with TPI engines and '87-89 Camaro's with TPI engines got the Australian made Borg-Warner M78 9-bolt 7.75" 4-pinion rear end.

The front seam where the firewall/toeboard panel to the floor panel is spot welded is getting some rust.

The carrier housing has four spider gears instead of two like the GM 7.5"/7.625" 10-bolt uses. It makes for a stronger differential.

Boss, it doesn't have to have G92. This IROC doesn't have that option. The 9-bolt was more specific of the TPI engine option. Non G92 9-bolt cars got the 2.77 or 3.08 ratio, G92 cars got a 3.27(auto) or 3.45(manual) ratio. '85-86 L69 5.0L HO cars Firebirds also got the 9-bolt with a 3.70 ratio.

If John Sawruk was still around he could tell us more about it as his team is the one that made the decision to upgrade to the Borg-Warner 9-bolt on upper level Firebirds in '85 and Chevy chose to do so also a few years later on TPI Camaros. The main reason was they are quieter running and slightly stronger. He talked about it a little in an article published in Pontiac magazine a few years ago shortly before he passed.
