Default Whats it worth???

I wanted to solicit the board for an option on value for a build I am currently doing (and plan to sell off)... Lets do this as a competition and I'll give away a Carbon Shaker as a prize (read below)....
The car is a 1970 Trans Am shell that I own and I decided to build in a pro-touring fashion as all the original stuff was gone/MIA.... We're playing with power train and trans options right now but the rest of the build is as follows:

- Carbon Fiber front end
- Carbon Fiber inner fenders
- Carbon Fiber Cowl
- Stock sub-frame (smoothed), under-carriage, firewall and rad support all painted satin Gray Finish to co-ordinate with the inner fenders
- Ride Tech Strong arms (After market A arms)
- Ride Tech's new triple Coil-overs
- Ride Tech 4 Link
- Rushford Live Wire rims and tires to be selected
- Custom exhaust and custom made mufflers Jet coated and hand built by Scott Mock
- Wilwood brake system (6 piston up front and 4 out back)
- Burgundy deluxe 70 low back seats/interior (may alter to custom covered 505 Sparco's)

The power train will either be:
- Ls-1 (fresh build) with 6 speed
or
- 400 stroked to 461 with a Keisler RS600 5 speed

The car will follow the stock-ish graphics scheme with the following change... It will be a Polar White car with a Carbon Bordered stripe (like the blue car below) with a red/burgundy stripe and a burgundy deluxe 70 interior.... Think this car with a Burgundy stripe and interior

Sample below is of a seventy-one we just finished to look more stock,,, notice the Carbon in the hood stripe,,, it's really a Carbon hood not a decal... So is the rest of the front end panels:

Well gang lets predict the selling price,,,, the winner will receive a Carbon Shaker (you'll need your own donor base plate) from Carbon Kustoms... Tie will go to the person that posts first or flip of a coin if posting at identical time (if that is even possible LOL)...

Default Price guess

I'd guess that you should be able to get $ 23.750 for it. It should be more but some want the real thing & the ones who don't , don't like to pay for your work & extra parts to make it handle. But PLEASE leave a PONTIAC engine in it. PLEASE, don't basterdize it with a ****y, opps I mean chevy motor. Let the aftermarket houses build the cars with the WRONG engine in it but to get a good price leave a PONTIAC engine in it. Made with belongs with. PONTIAC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

$37,500 with the Pontiac drive train. $47,500 with the LS drive train. Sorry guys but pro-touring types don't think it's complete until it has that LS motor in it. And if it were a Camaro you can tack on another $10K.

The carbon fiber components are very cool but they are unknown as far as value to most Pontiac enthusiasts. If they knew it might go higher. Hope it goes for way more Albert. Make me a liar.

Where will you be selling it? eBay,Mecum, BJ? Selling location could make a big difference in price estimates. One other question, will it have a reserve? If so top bid may not be selling price. Just trying to think through it all because I would love to win the shaker.

LOL Dreaming,,,, likely Mercum and it'd be a conservative reserve at their Spring IL auction,,, otherwise roll the dice at Barrett Vegas with no reserve.... The contest is for the selling price only so reserve doesn't play here,,,, you have to evaluate it's low side hence realistic side and guess where the emotional side will take the car at an auction without over shooting the selling price and ending up in the tanker....

I think this is going to be really cool to see how well the members here can evaluate the a car like this and guesstimate the human element.... Given the general preference to stock restoration on the board,,, it'll be interesting to see how members come to there values... Given the Mod's it takes some consideration to weather it takes value down,, or up,,,, because you know there are two camps of thought/buyers out there too LOL.... Just to make things interesting,,,, I'm going to consider driving traffic from the Carbon Kustoms site here to this PY thread too...

Hey lets put a second shaker up (for the best break down/break out of value on the thread,,, in my opinion,,, my choice) for how you got to your end value.... Heck why not,,, break the value out in your response to qualify for the second shaker in the contest....

Based on what I've seen sell in the PT style, at auctions, I'd have to agree with Chris...sadly its worth more with the LS power than trad Pontiac...as the bulk of the market thinks thats what has to be under the hood of a PT car.
I'd say $45K with the LS and $35K with the Pontiac...maybe a little more to the right person. (Like me - I stuck with pure Pontiac power).

This is based on prices I've seen for some professional builds from name shops that I've seen for modified musclecars.
You know, it would be great to see it really buck that price...but I think it'd need to be a 69 Camaro to do really well.

I am going to say $55,000 and I agree that what engine you build it with will impact the value.

Well, similar to other guesses, I am leaning towards a final value of $49k with ls power and $40k Poncho power. Here is how I based my equation:
$15-20k in suspension mods, brakes.
$3-5k in wheels
At least another $10k in drivetrain.
$$$$ for the Carbon Kustoms stuff( when is the pricing going to be released?)
And of course everyone expects the interior and labor to be free. I am not sure what value will be added for it being a real TA since it will be missing many of the stock items. Either way, good luck. Can't wait to see the final product.

Are you talkin craigslist, local canadian listing, eBay, Mecum, Barrett, classic auto auctions, Hemmings, carsonline.com? Every market bears out different values and forces the seller to consider selling costs, patience, and many other issues. You talkin about asking PY members what they would give for car in a 24 hr auction? Surely you could get what you have sunk in her. What do you have invested?

I'll bid $48,000 regardless of drivetrain selection. Will that get me a new carbon shaker? We will see. Good luck at the auctions. I hope you get double that amount.

Edit: from $47,500 just saw a similar bid.

My wild guess is it will sell for around ~70-80k at Barrett. Just depends on how high the second highest bidder is willing to go.

Ride Tech Front Sway Bar $400
Ride Teck Strong Arms Control Arms $1000
Ride Tech tripple coil overs $1350
Ride Tech 4 link Rear $1300
Ride Tech Rear Triple adjust Shocks $1300
Rushforth Live Wire Rims and tires $4000
Custom Exhaust $2000
LS1 Engine used with computer harness and accys $5000
LS1 Engine harness and ECM modifications $1000
LS1 Basic LS1 rebuild $2000
Carbon Fiber LS1 Engine dress up stuff $1000
Perfect fit Transmission $2500
Stainless drop sump Fuel Tank with integral pump $800
Wilwood Master Cylinder and booster $700
Wilwood Brakes 6 piston front $2300
Wilwood BRakes 4 pistor rear $1000
Brake lines and prop valve $500
Rear Differential 12 bolt posi $2000
Complete Deluxe interior Spracos $3000
Gauges and harnesses dash $2000
Glass $1000
Carbon Fiber Body panels (hood, fenders, inner fenders, decklid, flares, wing, scoop) $6000

I think one can buy a complete ERod engine for about 7500, including all wiring and computers.

I'd say 52K complete, and I think a poncho could bring just as much as an LSX, if it was outfitted with Fuel Injection and Aluminum Heads and all the other hi tech goodies

Default price guess

I am going to change my bid as if it were going to go on Barret-Jackson & say for the people who bid on th cars there I'd have to change my bid to $ 64750, because they seem not to have as much sense as money & thats the reason most people can't seem to buy a car anymore because of the OVER inflauted priceing on all the cars that go through that actuion.

$49.500

With a Poncho motor, a Pontiac guy will be very interested...LS motor every Pro Touring non-Pontiac loyalist will take interest.

Default auction price

$53,000 before adding any buyer's premium, I think its a $70k car but at auction I don't think it will bring as much as if it was built directly for a customer. I actually think it will have more interest if it has a real Pontiac motor in it. Good luck with your sale.

I'll agree to the high value but the market sucks and I know waaay too many Ford/Chev/Dodge guys who "think" Pontiac motors do not or can't make any power, they think of low compression mid 70's 455's unfortunately
I'm going to try to change that, so there's always hope for the misinformed

With a 9/10 exterior finish, 58k at BJ. 45k at Mecum. On a favorable weekend.
