Default Transmission Shield

Hi: When is a Tranny shield needed? Just had the Firebird out and ran a 10:30 at 132 mph.

I installed a JW bellhousing on the TH400 this year so Flexplate area is done.

Thanks
Charles

Pretty sure a tranny blanket is needed at the same time a 6pt roll bar is needed. 11.5 ET or something close to that

Yes. From what what my understanding is now, you have to have a SFI Spec 30.1 bellhousing or a shield over the stock bellhousing. and a SFI spec 4.1 tranny blanket or Tranny shield. You can buy in two piece configuration or as a complete unit that bolts to belt housing.

Generally do they fit in a stock trans tunnel?

I don't know. I installed a JW bellhousing when I built our TH400, so that takes care of the bellhouing area. J.W. bellhousing is spec 30.1 I just need a tranny shield. I ordered a blanket from Good Vibrations.

CSR fits my 79 Camaro IA fine. The hard part is getting those top bolts in ! Be nice if you could use the JB bellhousing and then section that part off the CSR shield for just the tight tranny part.

I did have to grind down some ribs on the case for it to fit.

So how many of you all have had tech check for one? And if they checked date on it?

They always checked that I had one but never checked the date thank goodness. Pretty tough to read the sticker, you can just barely see it down in the tunnel.

Ears needed ground off my T400 for the shield to fit.
