Blower motor mystery
I am close to bringing my 72 TA back from the dead. I installed a new AAW dash harness , blower motor , and rebuilt ac controls. everything works including blower motor at all speeds. the mystery is the blower motor will not turn off . when you put the top slide bar in the off position the blower motor drops to low speed and continuously runs as long as the key is on . it doesn't matter what position the fan switch is on as long as the top slider is in the off position if you turn on the ac the fan works perfectly .The ac clutch engages and disengages as it should when the top slide is operated from off to on. Anyone ever experience this or have an idea? Thanks Ken

I believe they were made this way from the factory. It should run only on low when the control is in off position.

This is normal operation. With the key on the fan blows on low speed even when the AC is in the off position.

its annoying isn't it...I just had my AC removed at the beginning of this year and never even noticed it before that....if I drive it now during a colder morning with the fan blowing it'll begin to fog up the windshield....that's likely another issue though...

Thanks for the reply. It doesn't seem right but if its not broken I am going to quit trying to fix it.

It's a feature the factory designed into the system. In throry, it is supposed to keep a small amount of fresh air coming in at all times.

That's something I've noticed as well since I drove my first f-body years ago. It's something I notice in the newer cars I'm driving these days although the fans have gotten quieter.

I hate this feature. As these cars age, the motor gets louder, and as a result they become much more noticeable.
When I shut the fan off, I want it off.

I don't use the off switch on the fan on my other cars, so I don't have a problem with it. If your fan motor is too loud, you're too old!
