If it was Ram Air, the scoops would be open.

Not all Formulas were Ram Air, so those scoops were closed.

It is not too hard to open them up and add the screen to the inlet.

This is how it should appear on the PHS. "RAM AIR HOOD"

Do you have a build sheet or the PHS invoicing copy?
K45 option is a normal looking air cleaner w/a different filter.
WU3 option is the Ram Air (opened up Formula hood w/screens)/special air cleaner assy.

Do you have a picture of the air cleaner?

Cool that you have an actual build sheet. Can you post it too?

Thumbs up

Congrats on the score of a cool Formula.

The answer to your question, unfortunately your car did not come from the factory with functional Ram Air. As HFR stated, the HD Air cleaner is a different FILTER on the inside of a standard single snorkel air cleaner assembly. Clearly, someone has added the functional Ram Air base and rubber boots.

Your PHS doc is proof of a non-Ram Air car. But still, a somewhat rare 4 speed 455 Formula!

Cool Formula!

Since you have the RA cleaner now, open the scoops to make it work like it should.

Could you get a clearer pic of the dealer info or write it down?
I have a database of Pontiac dealers and I don't think this is in it?

as food for thought, the 73 TA was corked up due to shaker noise rules, so a non RA Formula 455 is the same really. So if originality is a big deal..... having said that, hard to resist a RA set up. Buy a second hood and keep your original as an option (?) but ($$$)
