I need help picking valve covers... I know it's weak but hear me out. I bought the motor already built out of another car and it has too much bling. As of right now I am keeping the polished intake:


The motor will be painted silver metallic blue and it's going in a buccaneer red Trans Am. With the coated headers, polished intake, polished carb, etc I think it's too much.

I see three ways to go- aluminum, painted silver metallic blue or painted black (gloss or semi gloss).

I like the look of the fabricated valve covers and painted silver metallic blue valve covers would be an interesting change but not sure if it would come out as good as it looks in my head.

Thoughts??? Please help!!

My vote if you are keeping the pulleys is to go Aluminum.

I will be keeping the pulleys and accessories. Aluminum would match well, just worried about overkill. It's definitely losing the wire separators.

Another option I considered was anadozed red like was popular in the 70's. Not available anymore so I would have to have some coated.

I guess I could also paint them to match the car. Really just unsure.

You could maybe get those covers on the engine now glass beaded to give them an as-cast look. It would be less 'blingy'.

If you go silver metallic blue, I say paint the groves in the valve covers the same. It will tone down all that aluminum and give the engine some more color. Actually you could paint anything that's black with silver metallic blue to offset the shiny stuff. Just my .

I'm partial to these. Cal Custom. I do run a 3/8" spacer for roller rocker clearance. I polished them from well used and painted between the ribs 10 years ago. Still shining on........

Those are actually my favorite valve covers of all time- even better than the M/T finned covers!

The car is being set up in a pro-touring fashion and I think I need something a little more modern. Those look perfect in your engine bay but I don't know how they will look with the modem bracing all over the place, new wiring, relays, etc

I like the Cal Customs also, but for me the best Valve Covers for a Pontiac are
the old (or new) Offenhouser. Had these on a Tri-Powered 406, and they are
very cool. Needed to clearance them a little for proper fit, but they worked.
The Cal Customs have the same look, but the offy's have much deeper fins, and
a classic look. I used Stock Rockers, and can't advise regarding clearance.

Ever notice painted stock valve covers compared to stock chrome valve covers. The all painted engine looks bigger.

Something from the leastest to the mostest.

The least to consider is the stock blue painted 350 LeMans Valve covers.

I prefer the M/T castings with 5/16 thick gaskets.

The mostest you have, and anything like it.
