Spirit of 76 TA
I heard about a rare TA rotting in a field. Supposed to be 455 4spd car.
Anyone have any info on a special 76 TA? All I can find on net is this pic. |

Never saw one on a Dealer lot in 76 nor on the road. It looks like a typical Dealer installed dress up job as there were so many products caught in the Bicentennial excitement (remember Bicentennial Lawn Boy mowers?) at the time or it could have been an enthusiastic owner.(?)
Looking at that photo, it just doesn't look like something that would have passed muster in the design studio at GM.

1976 was a crazy year. Everything you bought was the "Bicentenial" version.
I have a Bicentenial Grandfather clock that has a dial with the signing of the Declaration of independence rather than a moon dial. So yes, the Dealers did a lot of crazy stuff back then, but the factories also participated. This was truly a big deal back then, The turn of the century got no where near the same attention as the 200th birthday of the U.S. I must add that I never did see this Car on the street or advertised back then, but that doesn't mean Pontiac had no hand in it, but it is likely a dealer promo for the Bicentenial. |

The car pictured came out of Switzerland.
They had some customized cars back in the seventies/eighties. American cars used to be very popular there. both GM and Chrysler even had local assembly plants in the sixties/very early senventies. The T/A in question was recently advertised for sale in Germany. To me this is a one off custom that someone did back in the day.

Doesn't appear to anything special, just a regular white '76 TA that has two-tone red and white interior and a custom stripe slapped on that doesn't even compliment the other graphics or red on the car. The owner probably wanted a Z28.
