Here is a picture of the blower motor grill on the package tray. It was a common unit used on many GM cars throughout the 1970's.

The dash wiring harness is partially wired from the factory. There is a single blade connector above the driver's side kick panel. The control switch connector is behind the cigarette lighter. All you have to do is run a single wire with the proper Packard Series-56 terminal connectors from the kick panel to the package tray. The blower motor grounds to the body with a self tapping screw.

Was the Toaster style defroster available in 72? I have this on my 73 rather than the
blower set-up and it's shown on my PHS, but curious what the first year was for this
option.

No, '70, like in many things, is unique. Same switch but the blower motor, package shelf and cover are different than '71 & up. The 70 opening and cover is narrower (front to back) and wider (side to side).

I have a spare rear de-fogger that I pulled from a 73 Grand Prix. It's the same as the one in my 73 Trans Am. It is red/maroon though. I could part with it if you still are in need of one.

71 up is generally the same and interchanges...70 was the last year for the metal grate and then went to plastic. Later about 76ish the motor assy changed..the housing grew..but it still works.

the 71 up motor and grille are not hard to get..its the harness and switch and its almost impossible to get by themselves..

Its been quite awhile since I've seen it but I think my 73 rear window defoger switch has a little green light on it.
The car has electric rear defrost.
