Default Lift points for 455 engine/4 speed trans

I will be pulling the 455 engine/trans in my 76 TA and want to know what points to connect to. I have one of the balance bars with 4 chains and have used this on small block chevy engines in the past but have never pulled a 455 and just want to make sure its secured when I go to hoist it out.

The factory provided correct points to balance a motor during install or
removal. The Driver side rear of the block should have a nice mounting point
that is casted into the block during manufacturing. The other point is the
Right upper Timing cover Bolt. It's on the water pump but is the bigger bolt
that goes through to the block. From the factory a flat metal motor lift
bracket is intalled on the bolt, but its a commonly missing item. These days
it's much more common to use Carb adapters or other methods, but the factory
points provide good control over the weight, especially with the Trans attached.

I use a four point mount utilizing the holes on the front and rear of each cylinder head. If your chains are long enough you can do this with the distributor in but not with the cap installed.

Also make sure whatever method you use, that good quality Bolts are used to
attach those chains. Grade 5 at minimum. Grade 8 is better. If you have
old bolts layin around. in general grade 5 would have 3 mark lines and grade 8
6 mark lines on top of the hex head.
