I added 17 lbs. to my front end over my Centerlines when I put a set of 4" wide SS's on.

But it was well worth the added weight.

Yea, now that I think of it, I think the numbers were 26lbs for SS's and 15lbs for Centerlines. So 11 lbs per rim. I probably posted it somewhere on here and hopefully, I wrote it down in my log book (aka, my memory book) in the garage

I agree, cragars have always been the most popular "go to" wheel of the 60's. They even look good on a mini van, lol.

Stronger too. That's why they were on there this summer

Yes, and they were first produced in 1964, so for my "Day 2" car, they were the ideal choice.

Torque Thrusts for me. Looks like a pretty day down south. Might even take 'er for a spin!

Hey Greg, remember that Rally Stripe you were toying with, could it possibly add to the "aggressive look" your craving?

I think its the perfect thing to compliment your top and new sneakers.

I can't tell what size you have on there but it seems a bit small and almost unnoticeable, not enough to accent your top.
Maybe being almost but not quite the size of the GTO logo, how close is yours to the factory stripe as pictured below?

Your car looks great and in my opinion the Rally Stripe would compliment it very well.

Frank

Oh...just when I was over the stripe Frank...lol
I used a basic off the shelf adhesive stripe. It's definitely smaller than the actual stripe as I just wanted to get an idea. I may still do it. I even have the paint already.

Oh god, tape stripe looks so Kmart cheap. If you are going to do it (and I hope not) have it painted on by a pinstriper.

Well, it was just a test Chief. Calm down...lol
IF I did it, I was going to do it myself..I'm kinda handy like that. I think so anyway
I even have a couple of cans of 'One Shot' and the professional grade pinstripe brush.

I seriously doubt that I will do it. After putting the sticky stripe on just to help visualize it, I did not think the change worth the considerable (for me) effort to paint it permanently.
I don't have the rock steady hands of a pro so I was going to have to at least partially mask the area with 3m Fineline tape.

My personal opinion, I don't think a stripe down there looks good on that body style. In fact, it just looks wrong, out of place and cheezy. There is a very defined body feature there to make the car look good.

It's purely color dependent. Lighter colors don't show the body line as well, and the stripe accents it. Works well when cars have a vinyl or soft top that make the stripe appear more visible. White top and white stripe might jump out a bit more.....maybe.

Chevrolet had the same thing going on in the 60's as well as other models. Some look good some not so much. Case by case basis. I can see why you're contemplating it so hard Greg. I'm 50/50 with it on your car. It does look pretty good on the maroon 69 and the red 68 pictured above. May need to try a different color and possibly do something with the tires to make it all work.

I'm with you on the color FJones. I see cars that look good with it and some that don't. 50/50 is about where I am at best...and I need better odds than that. Once it's painted, it would be a major downer if I did not like it.
Another thing I'm afraid of is that it will accentuate some of my amateur body work. That body line needs to be nice and straight ALL the way through. I see some flaws in my work that others don't notice but that line would make at least one of them obvious.

Greg, the new wheels look great. You should have called me though. I'm selling the T-37 and the new owner didn't want the wheels on it. You could have just borrowed mine. If you decided on Red Lines, Diamond back has the best deal on them. I paid less than $200 each for the ones on my Ventura, 215-70 up front and 245-60 in the back.

The TT’s look Fantastic on your car Greg!! They really do give it a much more agressive look. I’m also 50/50 on the stripe, thou I do have to admit, it really picks up the looks on that Red 68. Is there anything you can install which would not be permanent so you can remove it if you don’t like it? Anyway, just wanted you to know I think the Torque Thrust are the perfect pick for your 68.
Hope you have a Happy New Year!
