I think late model low mile second gen W72 cars will benefit the most after Hollywood chasers get out of the way.

Just sold a white 78 T top TA {red interior} to a guy in Indy, or Mich. My cousin sold it thru his Mazda Dealership in Cleveland. Is the buyer on this Forum?

Personally I think something has changed at these large venue auctions like scottsdale. There were a pile of cars thought brought absolutley crazy money. It wasn't just the 3 or 4 Trans am's. It's almost like these guys with really deep pockets are at the poker table & can't give up. I really don't get it. I know some of these cars are worth some good coin, but there were endless cars selling north of 70K that I couldn't understand.

That 79 Trans am could have sat for sale, listed on every site possible for $100K & it would have been passed over by the same guys who bid it up to $170K

Or Just maybe there is something more to that car that wasn't talked about. That does happen often on BJ & Meccum. Could be vin #1 of the TA/TA's, or owned by a GM exec Who knows?
Still insanity at its finest though

BTW, is this really the same car?

Engine detail is far less than I would expect for a 7 mile car. My 42K mile 79 looks about the same between the fenders......

Yes that was it,my 79 W72 with 23k mi. is a hell of a lot better than that too.
Says the owner was dirt track racer slash farmer that trailered it home new only to start it up regularly in a barn.Thats why you see the rust issues on the engine compartment my opinion.
Dirt floor and wood barns not a good place to preserve a car.

We didn't get to see the BJ under car chassis cam on that one. If that's a true story, I'll bet the underside isn't all that pretty either. Very surprising development in the story.

I also noticed it had bags on the seats in the auction, but they were not on in the photos. I understand giving the appearance that it just came off the delivery trailer, but if the undersides & engine compartment look like that, the bags on the seats are a moot point IMO.
Very awesome car, just not looking like its a 7 mile $187K kind of awesome.

I had two Tata in the early nineties, the cowl tags were identical except for one number. I think it was the build number, and the bj car could have had a one in that location.
Who knows?

Funny how the tables have turned, no one knows what a 72 455 ho trans am is.
The whole world knows the bandit trans am

Go buy one before it's too late, and make sure is a y84 or y82...........etc

Time to sell the 70 formula

But according to him they had to put the big block in it to get enough speed up to make the jump. I think thats bull because any 455 will pull just as hard.
The cars used in the movie were 1976 T/As that were converted to look like a '77. The auto cars were 400 (2.56 gear) which would explain why they changed the jump car to a SBC. Hal Needham owned a Nascar team at that time and used an engine from his race car. Notice the 8 grand tach which is a 1976.

in the one scene where they are sitting by a road sign waiting for the semi to pass Tex Arkan sign I think), you can see the 71-76 style honeycombs.

Because swapping in a completely different engine type is easier than a suitable rear gear swap. Just imagine a Nascar engine with 2.56 gearing, what a dog.

So Restoreamusclecar has a 1977 SE Y82. Nice car. W72 and M21. Before BJ it had run on eBay for a long time at $59,000 BIN without selling. Post BJ the BIN price has been moved up to $69,800....

It will be interesting to see what happens longer term.

And they were gold in that scene,probably from a 50th annv LE car too.......with T-tops.......if it had a 455 4spd it was a 1 of 110.

Whichever you like best. Personally I'd prefer a 77-79 SE over a TATA. I like TATA's too, but I like the black and gold better.
