18th annual Pontiac Heaven weekend- Arizona December 16-18, 2016
December 16-18 will be the dates for this year's Pontiac Heaven weekend. 3 days of drag racing on a NHRA national event track.
I also have a contract for 2017 Pontiac Heaven weekend and a date hold for 2018. Here is a schedule at this time, some things may be refined. Friday eve- open drag racing/test and tune. Meet and greet. Saturday- is the Drag Reunion for all vehicles and engines 1981 and older. Saturday night activities are yet undecided Sunday is for real Pontiac power only. No restrictions on year or type of vehicle, all in show and on track ( strip or autocross ) must be real Pontiac powered. 2 car shows ( sat and sun ), parts swap meet, tech sessions, autocross ( Sunday ), classic salvage yard tours , tour of Pontiac Heaven Maricopa location, other activities in planning. This immediate area is geared to tourism and much to do for all ages- Rawhide 1880s town, places to eat for all price ranges, shopping, horseback riding, golf, casino gaming, live entertainment, etc. All this make Pontiac Heaven weekend a Pontiac event destination like no other. More details to be announced- Keep current on face book page https://www.facebook.com/PontiacHeaven website will have much more details in coming weeks- www.pontiacheaven.org Overnight parking/camping is available. questions? contact me direct - steve@pontiacheaven.org Event proceeds benefit the Pontiac Heaven Museum Project. thank you

I'm glad we've got dates. I'll be there, Lord willin' and the creek don't rise.
Maybe in December at the lower elevation I can improve on my 7.81. Jim

Hi Jim, Am planning to call you on this and other things. The last 2-3 years have been a struggle on some things, it seems they are all worked out now and in writing. We'll see. I told them if the weekend goes good as planned, will sign the 2018 contract end of this year. * The overnight parking/camping hassles I have had to put up with are no longer an issue ( according to contract ) *With Friday rented now also, it will provide a smoother , yet more expensive, transition to the weekend and easier on my staff. * They have also lifted the swap meet license requirements that have effected us the last 2 years. Wanting to get back to our 'Speedworld' style swap meets. * the weather is normally very, very nice in mid Dec so, it is a good gamble. ^ adding the autocross is another thing have wanted to do for awhile but, timing was never right. This year, we do it! Fans can run their real Pontiac powered vehicle on the championship NHRA drag strip or on the autocross course or both! Plus the 2 shows. All this should help our appeal to out of state fans of real Pontiac power. Plus, classic salvage yard tours where visitors can browse through thousands of rust free cars. Will also have a special tour of the Pontiac Heaven Maricopa location. More to come.

"Motown Magic Holiday Tribute" on the 18th at the casino. Might be a nice way to cap the event off.

I think I was there the first year at Wildhorse. Bike week was going on and Hagar was playing at the casino. Triple header. I had a blast.

I don't think I have missed a Pontiac Heaven event since 2002, but family and holiday issues will make this one unlikely for me. To all others, this is a great event, and it is an awesome time of the year to be racing in Arizona.

I'll try to make it. It really depends on what the weather is doing up in Northern AZ. It can be hit or miss that time of year.

I thought about having someone meet me there with a trans and throwing it in at the track but that sounds a little drastic.

Good pic but, a bit dated. In the lower left, that is the outlet shopping mall with food court. Between the mall and the track is the casino with many places to east also. You can see the golf course and Rawhide. You can see jst how close most everything is.
If you look at the I-10 overpass close to the track you can see a field just on the other side of the fwy. That is where the new Host hotel is. It opened in September and there are $79 special rates if you mention "Pontiac Heaven". Right next door to the host hotel, you can see the Love's travel center. Love's has an Arby's, showers, store, they even sell 110 octane gas right at the pump! both leaded and unleaded! across the road from the Arby's is a McDonalds. It is an outstanding event destination! I will always miss my events at Speedworld but, having Pontiac Heaven weekends now at the Wild Horse Pass area really increases the interest for those traveling from out of town as it I so family friendly. The airport is 20 minutes away. It is such a step up at this new location for us. The lake next to the strip has hosted drag boat races since the mi 70s It is the oldest item in the area I know of. The car show is next to the lake and has a large shade pavilion with tables and chairs. I will have the autocross near the show area. The whole area , as you can see, is geared to tourism. There is something to do in the area for most everyone. One of the 2 Pontiac Heaven locations is about 20 miles from the track. I will be giving tours of it for those preregistered. There are about 300 old Pontiacs at that location. Then, there will be a tour of a classic aut wrecking yard in the area with thousands of vintage cars and trucks. Other classic yards are in the area too! more info at wwwpontiacheaven.org

FYI: I made my reservation at the host hotel a few days ago and they initially transferred me to their national customer service center. The customer service rep was not aware of the rate and told me to call the local hotel again (the number on the brochure). I did and they set me up just fine. King bed room for two adults @ $79/night. Great rate for a brand new hotel so close to the track.
