Question Milodon 7qt pan question

When using one of these on a 400, how much oil should be used including the filter? Is 7qt total or 7 plus filter?

I have one of these pans on a 400 based stroker, very nice pan... the added capacity is just 1 qt more than stock pans... I have found that I can still use ~6qts and be full for street or drag strip use. The extra qt might be beneficial for hard auto-x racing but ive also read that more oil than needed can rob power.

Ive never found a stock size pontiac filter to hold 1 full qt of oil even though some manuals say add 1 qt for new filter.

Thanks. So you are putting 6qts total then? Do you have any issues with oil pressure at cruising speeds with just 6qts?

Yes, roughly 6qts total, maybe a tad more depending on filter size. Zero issues with oil psi at cruising speeds or higher 5500+ rpm runs on street or track... car runs low 11's at 121-123mph. Dyno'd with that amount of oil too and gauge had excellent pressure through all runs using good 'ol 10/30 in my street/strip engine.

I did some measuring for my project. A Wix 51515 filter (5.197" high) holds 0.85 quarts.......so, 3/4 quart if you're rounding.
