Polish Pilot lands plane without its wheels (Video)
Published on Feb 9, 2013
Faced with a flight emergency, a Polish pilot pulled off a remarkable feat of airmanship that saved hundreds of lives and made it's way into aviation history. Actual video shot inside the cabin shows the passengers in the moments before the crash landing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbV58eY0MyM Maybe I'm late to the party, but I hadn't heard about this, amazing. |

I'd also missed this one. Thxs for the post.
American passenger's statement "It was one of the smoothest landings I've ever experienced" says it all as to the training designed to save lives. |

1st I've seen of this.
I love it when, in a situation where something amazing is done, that the individuals that pull it off say simply........I was doing my job. Well done.

That event happened a couple years ago. I recall viewing the pictures of the airframe after the incident, and I noticed that Corban-35 had been applied inside the wheel-wells and other vulnerable areas.
I'd say it was quite an event regardless of when it happened!

Found this, says here it was caused by hydraulic failure.

Wonder why the alternate landing gear system (pages 9, 13, 14) was non-functional until on the runway? Wonder why setting C829 (A1) BAT BUS DIST circuit breaker wasn't in "on" position to activate alternate? I didn't see anything in the report that ID'd a Alternate Gear circuit or breaker malfunction. |

Corban-35 is a corrosion inhibiting compound that can be applied once, and then go depot to depot. I was surprised to see it on an airliner, an aircraft that lives a sheltered life compared to a rescue helicopter or a float plane.

The story does remind me of my favorite Polish joke though: "News Flash!! A small, 2-seater aircraft fatally crashed into a cemetery outside of of Warsaw, Poland earlier today. So far, officials have recovered 147 bodies. Recovery efforts are expected to continue....."
