Default 71 4spd GP

Hate to do it but looking to sell my 71 Grand Prix with most original parts on car. Car needs a total restoration which I am not able to do justice. Is a special paint code car so it appears to be a 1 of 1 on top of the being only one of 52 4 speed cars built. Have PHS and it was reasonably optioned. Vinyl top, honeycombs, power door locks, tilt, rear window defogger, power seat , and few more. Very solid car originally sold in N. CA went to NV and stayed. Has some rot on quarter panels but all floors are really solid. Bad news- the original engine is gone along with carb but all attaching pieces ie: alt,p/s,fan,etc are all original along with brakes. Brake clips still on rear brake drums. Also missing drivers headrest and retractable seat belt. Have a correct casting # long block available along with correct 4 spd carb that do not go with asking price of car. Can send pics if interested. Asking price is $10K. Thanks

Thumbs up

welcome to the PY forums!! You should add pics....the listing will get more interest........price seems high not running & not a #'s matching car. What are the colors & code listed? I want one but in the middle of a resto on a 71' now. Best of luck on the sale, Dave K.

Sorry for not puttings pics in spot. Brain fart I guess. Price is always a starting point and how often do you get a chance at a one of anything in your lifetime. Wives dont count here. Car was discussed with many people in the Pontiac family and thats where it was decided after much debate. Vehicle does run well just tired. Car has a blank code for paint so it could be any color in the book except Cadillacs.

that's what i was thinking. just would need a '69 to make the trifecta.

1lsm: have you verified the trans and rear are the born with units? is this a non A/C car or is just the compressor stuff not there? can you post some pics of the rusty spots.

I have not 100% verified but I have seen enough of these old cars to know when nothing has been messed with. Was also looked at by another GP nut that has one of these. All housing casting # are correct and it appears that all is original. All 4 speed parts are intact. Nothing is missing. Original brake clips are still on the rear drums. This is a non a/c car as shown in PHS. Here are pics of the quarters that have rust. I also included one of the trunk to show how solid the rest of the car is. There is even one original trunk liner at the left quarter in the trunk.

Still have a 69 here in PA for you Matt!!!

The 71 looks like a pretty easy fix, not far from driver.

How 'bout it KV! Got room for just one more? I'd love to see this car restored one day as it deserves... and since you are the GP master, there's no better home for it.

The other GP nut here ... this would be a great GP to restore, has a lot going for it. I really like the way its optioned, especially NO a/c which is pretty unusual for a '71. All of the special GP only 4-speed parts are there and after seeing the car in person I would be very surprised if the trans or rear wasn't original to the car. I'd be happy to verify this myself for anyone interested, with permission from the seller of course...

Hope you don't mind me chiming in here Chris...

To be clear, I've never seen this GP in person so I have no input regarding that specifically. I can say this with 100% accuracy tho...the seller is a legit Pontiac nut and a great person to deal with on every level. When he describes any areas of the vehicle you ask about, he does not dress it up. If anything he is very hard on the car when describing it. I know this from first-hand experience.

I'm not going to bat for the guy as a favor. I'm only putting my .02 in because I don't recall him being on PY much and was surprised to see the GP he's told me about recently. The "regulars" may not recognize his handle as he's more of a "do'er" than a chatty guy. I've only jumped in on a few posts like this over the years as I know it can be dicey dealing with cars online and across the country. I've dealt with Chris on a number of items coming from across the country and it's always been better than described. Good luck with the sale Chris. That is one cool GP.

"Pio"

Thanks John and Grant. Your input is more than welcome and I am thankful to have your friendship and the reputation I have built with the two of you. I just have too many cars to do all of them and have to pick and choose carefully. I know Im going to kick myself when its gone but I cant have them all no matter how bad I want to. That goes for the other 6 I want to find new homes for.

Selling my 69 4spd GP was the single biggest mistake I've made yet. At least you have another dozen unreal hot rods to help ease the pain Chris!

Could be closer than you think. Prices are never set in stone-only takes a little effort to call and discuss and see what happens.
