Default Why am I so popular?

I went to a local car cruise tonight with two of my sons. It's a new one and it's pretty big. We have a lot of really, really nice cars around here. Anyway, my kids are not huge car-guys (yes, it breaks my heart a little) but they know more than most just from hanging around the likes of me.

Anyway, they all have noticed before and again tonight, that my car gets more attention than most, especially from real car nuts. I have people taking pictures, pulling up (in THEIR really nice cars, mind you) to tell me "now THIS is a REALLY nice car" and similar comments.

What is it? Is it that it's a 64 GTO (albeit a clone, but 99% don't know that anyway) which we all know started it all? Is it the modern, Viper blue metalic paint that really pops? The classic S/S rims? The rumble of 600ft/lbs of torque?

Maybe it's my stellar good looks

Seriously, what is it about my car that really gets people's goats? Love to hear others' thoughts on this.

Thanks. I should have added that I'm not compliment fishing here.

I told the kids I think it's the year, (but I wonder if it's also the modern paint color). Iconic and more rare than the 70 Chevelle, 69 Camaro and 65 Mustang, for example.

IT'S NOT A CHEVY, it's different than 99% of the other cars at a show.

Just like being at a bar, with 99% of the women wearing pants, and a women comes in wearing a skirt/dress, heels etc. You notice it because it's not the same old same old, it stands out in a sea of sameness.

I know no one will here will believe me, but I get the same reaction with my 05 GTO to a lesser degree. Just a stock 05 GTO painted Yellowjacket. I get compliments about it all the time, sometimes it surprises me how people compliment me about the car. Ask dumb questions. "It's a six right"? "It's front wheel drive, right?" "I never knew they still made GTOs".

I know it's not a older classic, it still gets it's share of interest. Even in late model hot rods it's not a challenger, ruststang, or a crapmaro.

I bribed them to go with me by offering dinner... and not the hot dogs served in the parking lot. NOOOO. One had lobster roll and one a full 3 course meal.

Hey Adam, where is this new cruise spot? I usually go to the Bellmore train station but I have not been able to get there this year. The traffic on the Belt Pkwy on Friday nights is impossible.

Milleridge Inn, Jericho, right off LIE. There were folks there from the boroughs.

Check out this site for local cruises, he keeps the calendar pretty up to date.

It's because it's a Pontiac.

At a Historic race at Road Atlanta I had a dad and his young sons stop by, they took pictures, asked questions, etc...
He said they'd been walking the pits and checking out all the cars. His son said: "Daddy, this is my favorite car here"
I even had one of the grid workers tell me the same thing as we're lining up for the start of the race, as I gridded between two 1969 HTA 302 Camaro's, couple Vettes and other Vintage Road Race cars..

I think it's just the Classic and stand out from the crowd lines a Pontiac has, and I had the only one there.
Isn't that why we love them?

Yes, for sure, I've always enjoyed the road less traveled for sure. I'd be hard pressed to buy a Camaro - the stars would really need to be in alignment for that to happen. I love standing out from a crowd.

What always gets me is that a Chevelle will outsell (both in volume and money) most other marks most times. Despite there being so many of them out there, they still get top dollar!

Along those lines, I was a Mopar guy first, and we were the red headed step children of the auto world. Now they are all so expensive it's crazy!
