Default kick-down solenoid?

Pictured below is what I think is a kick-down solenoid on the side of my Quadrajet. Engine was previously in an automatic car. Since I am running a manual transmission, can I just unscrew this and take it off?

Looks more like an A/C idle solenoid to me. Bumps idle up when AC compressor cycles.

Thats the Idle or 'anti-dieseling' solenoid found on 68 and up vehicles. I think it was phased out in the mid 70s. You adjust the engine idle with the solenoid plunger and then the carb idle screw a few hundred RPM below the solenoid idle speed. This prevents engine run on when the ignition is turned off. The solenoid is energized whenever the ignition is on.

Now days some use it for an idle bump up when the A/C is turned on. Simple re-wire from the ignition to the compressor circuit.

My car is a non-AC car... . So, I should leave it on and plug it in? I'm not sure my new engine wiring harness has a plug for that...since I ordered a harness for non A/C. If it's needed and there is no plug, how could I best hook it up?.

All 68’s had he idle stop solenoid so your harness should have a green wire coming out

It was needed 50+ years ago when carbs were tuned lean to pass emission standards. Unless you have a problem with dieseling you can take it off.

I'm assuming this is for your 71. The wire color was black with yellow stripe. It would be the same for A/C or non A/C cars. .

Toss it. I use one for my cars with A/C . The Holley bracket also takes the same solenoid as my 78 TA!

As mentioned it's the fast idle solenoid and wired to come on when the A/C clutch engages. Not needed for non A/C cars but they can also be used as a anti-dieseling solenoid if you set it up to control idle speed and kill power to it when the ignition switch is turned off.

BTW, I would get rid of the cut fuel line and rubber hose clamps and put a solid fuel line from the fuel pump to the carb........
