rust repair to the spring mounts on 74 firebird
I asked in the firebird section, lots of looks but no answers.
looked at a 74 455 formula that has major rust where the front of the rear spring bolts to the body. driver side may last a little, but I think 1st good bump and the passenger side comes thru the floor. frame rails look good, just the floor section rusted out. what are the options to repair, can it even be done? I may be able to get a nice section, just not sure how comfortable I am with welding it in, as that is one heavy stressed area. if I was to get the car, there is a 550 hp engine going in.

The spring pocket where the hanger bolts and main floor are separate pieces. The pocket is attached under the floor to the frame rail and extends to the side against the inner rocker panel. It has bunch of spotelds, but can be removed and replaced with some drilling, carefull cutting, and welding. You could find a donor pocket out there if you are ambitious enough to go for the install

I have repaired these on first gen F-body's before. It is pretty involved but not bad if you do everything in the correct order and support the body properly. As long as the frame rails are solid it's worth doing. Post some pictures.

See if you can get some pictures. The area has a top layer(floor pan) and then there is a heavy gauge(14 or 16 gauge) triangle brace that ties the frame rail into the inner rocker that the perch also bolts to.
Support the car, Drop the front leaf perches, Run a cross brace under the front of the frame rails and then cut the floor above them.

I think the rear frame rails are now produced and can be bought aftermarket. If not then get them from a donor vehicle.
