Anyone know if the 70' had the sewn thin elastic piece on the shoulder seat belts? I know the 71's do?

So what have you guys found that works well to replace lame, limp elastic on the shoulder harnesses? (How's that for stealing a thread?)

I'm actually thinking of just leaving the shoulder harnesses off when I install the new headliner. For the limited miles I will be driving it, the lap belts will have to suffice.

No stealing taken, as it is very related. Believe it or not, arts n' crafts, or fabric stores sell the identical black elastic. No jiving. I've used it several times.

I need the elastics for ,y bright blue shoulder belts, and I'm hoping someone has a source. I found white in 3/8" (I think the elastics were originally 5/16), which I tried to dye (with fabric dye). I got really close with the color, mixing aqua and royal blue, but the dye just won't hold on the material, which is a polyester rubber blend. I also tried various combinations of heat, vinegar, and salt in the dye mixture, but nothing worked. I also searched on line for a couple hours--I didn't see anything close enough. t could try the vinyl dye, but I don't suspect it will work well on elastic that gets stretched repeatedly. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I used a magic marker on the elastic. It's held up perfectly for over a year now.

X2 , done 2 '71's this way, in fact a girl there offered to sew them for me...

I sent my shoulder belts to Ssnake-oyl 10-12 years ago for new elastics. I think they charged $15 or $20 each. They matched 71 blue really well.

I just got off the phone with someone at Snake-oyl. They told me they only use black elastic now….they don't have a source for the blue.

I'd try magic markers, but I'm a little concerned it will rub off on the headliner.

I had Python Restoration do all the belts for my Bright Blue interior a year or so ago. They used the blue elastic. Maybe they will just sell you some?

X3! I found the exact elastic at Hobby Lobby. IIRC, they had several colors as well.
