Sorry for your loss...great story and thanks for sharing. Those really were the good old days in the car/racing world.

Sorry for the loss, but thanks for posting this. RIP Rattler.

Growing up in MD, I had a friend who’s uncle was part owner, or team member, of the Funny Car “Brief Encounter”. One day, in the seventies, the Brief Encounter on a rollback was parked in front on my buddies house, on Joppa Farm road, in Joppatowne MD.

We got to go to Cecil County the next day, and the Brief Encounter beat Jungle Jim in a match race.

My buddies last name was Lister.

I found info online of a unique Sidewinder car that he apparently ran, back in the sixties.

Have you ever heard of either of these cars?
Neat story! I’m sure that made for a great memory. Unfortunately I don’t know of either of those cars, this era was a little before my time. If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the last few years, the info is out there!

The brief encounter cars were owned by Biddy Winward who is a friend. Nice guy, still alive and kicking.
He had several hired drivers, even the great big daddy Garlits

Found this pic on eBay and ordered a print. It's surprisingly high quality, must have came from a negative. I have another of his '74 Plymouth funny car on the way too.

The biggest thing I can remember about the two Funny Cars was, that the Brief Encounter was very nice, a very clean and detailed car. Jungle Jim’s car was kinda rough around the edges, with weights clamped on the frame, and such. That was a long time ago, I don’t really remember much more, other than Jim’s car was like a work truck, while the Brief Encounter was like a new show car.

I have no idea how my buddies uncle was involved other than he was part of the team. I’m sure Biddy could clear up that issue if you were to ask him. Like I mentioned earlier, his last name was Lister.

There was a Lowell Lister that ran a sidewinder car back in the late sixties. I am curious if Lowell Lister was my buddies uncle, that was involved with the Brief Encounter in the seventies.

Back to the Rattler…. That last picture of the Rattler above is awesome! I love that old tree, with five amber lights from back in the day. An era when your time slip was a hand written card, like a business card, with the car number & class, ET, MPH and Win or Lose.

Purchased a pic of one of his '74 Satellite funny car off eBay and the seller sent me this pic of his Pinto funny car as a bonus which I hadn't seen before. My uncle is in the pic wearing the Vertex Magneto t-shirt

Those are Cool Pics! I bet they are true time capsules for you..

Have you ever been to the March Meet at Bakersfield? It’s a pretty big event, with lots of cool cars. They have a similar event in the fall as well. Both are great events if you want to see some old school race cars.

Here’s some running at Maple grove
