Those shots on the "ranch" look like scenes from No Country For Old Men movie. Need a tequila bottle on the ground and some snarling dogs though. Too much! The car itself defies trying to explain.

...I finally installed my new rear package tray. sometime early in the 1980's there was the typical upgrade to an Pioneer Super Tuner II with cassette along with a pair of 6 X 9's that were cut into the original shelf. the older I get, the less I like that look, especially on original cars, so those unsightly speaker grills had to go.
Thankfully, the installer left the factory supplied perforations of the original shelf intact, therefore I was able to send it to Legendary Auto Interiors for them to use as a pattern. all the catalog repops have provisions for two rear speakers, while the born with originals only have the one on the drivers side. if you run a full size spare, there is no room for a second speaker in these cars. I must admit, it was all worth the effort. too me, the finished look is way better then the day-two add-on's. I did think about painting the grills green to match, or replace them with OEM standard type grills, but neither one would technically be correct, however, once I learned I could get a new tray made with just the drivers side holes like the original, the decision was made to do that instead. Originally, these cars, (early on anyway) used a foam type of insulator padding between the cardboard tray and the metal deck of the body, I found it odd that LAI supplied one made of jute and not the correct 3/8" foam, even after they had my originals as a pattern? not sure why that is. I ultimately sourced a correct piece of gray foam padding and replicated a new and more correct pad just like the original... |
