I have a question on installing the divider plates on my 67 400 with 8 bolt water pump. My original plates were corroded, so I bought new stainless ones prom PY. When I tried to install them, the outer one kept letting gravity take over, and fell out. I put the inner one in, then a gasket, put in the outer one, another gasket, then the water pump. When I tightened it down, the impeller rubbed on the plate. I was able to loosen the bolts, and with a thin bladed screwdriver, push up on the plate enough so now it doesn't rub.
Is this correct, or did I do something wrong. This is all on a fresh rebuilt motor that hasn't been started yet.
