Last weekend I drove my '71 Trans Am to the gas station to fuel it up for the first time in almost 7 years thanks to body shop purgatory and I completely forgot what it was like to be stared at wherever I go.

Minor Update
I'm finally getting to replacing the gas tank, starter, and wiper motor. I ordered and new Goodmark gas tank from Summit. I hope it's decent quality and looks original. It's the original type galvanized steel, not the painted kind or stainless steel. I'll get the stencil kit for the stamped marks.
I bought a HD stock type starter from Powermaster (also from Summit) to replace the bad rebuild while I look for a numbers (1108446?) unit. It had pretty good feedback comments for the price and function. Nice thing, both had free shipping which saved me $75! I still need to get a new wiper motor. Dennis |

How did I miss the "done" pics of car (???) Holy Jaw Drop..... Falls in my category of lust... no spoiler, oh yeah. Don't usually prefer the hub caps, but I like this one a lot. What a car.

Thanks for putting the pics up of the gastank, Dennis. Could you say the GoodMark tank is the most faithful reproduction of the '70-74 F body gastanks? Soon to be in buying mode for a tank for the '72. Happy New Year your ways!

Is that tank made out of stainless steel? Does it have the fill tube extension inside the tank to keep fuel from sloshing up against the gas cap?

Is that considered EEC? Or energy elevation chamber?

Roger, I don't have the original tank out yet to compare it to, and I haven't physically seen it in person either. I had it delivered to Dan's place where I keep my cars. I'll have to report back later once we get to the swap, unless Dan is reading this and can respond.
Mike, I just ordered the one Summit had listed for 70/71 F-body with EEC (they had a hint "if equipped with the charcoal cannister under the hood - so either Calif. cars or 71-up). I'll see if there was a p/n, but I didn't pay attention to that. Dens71TA, I don't know, except they said it is supposed to be identical to the original in every way. If you can see it looking down filler neck, I'll let you know. Mike, is that what EEC stands for? I thought it was for Exhaust Emissions Control, or something like that. Dennis |

Mike, it is indeed p/n TNKGM42B.
Dens71TA, No, it says it is the galvanized steel...Nitro-something. Dennis |

Got the new Goodmark gas tank in along with a new high-torque starter/solenoid with a factory 2-pc heat shield. When we poured 10 gallons back into the tank, it seemed to take the gas as fast as it could be poured, so hopefully the 10-15 minute fill-ups are a thing of the past. The starter is a new PowerMaster unit, while not accurate, at least original looking enough for now. We'll see if it takes care of the heat soak problem. Also replaced the windshield wiper and washer pump motors with new units so I can have working wipers if I get caught in the rain like at last years TA Nats.
Roger, the tank we removed wasn't the original unfortunately. Apparently it was replaced when the rear end repair was done years ago. From the previous body work Darrell found, the quarters were original, but the rear valance panel and tank took the damage, so something slid under the car to make them replace the original tank. Chuck, #3655, which is the only 'original' style starter for Pontiacs they have/make. Dennis |

I tried one, I got it thru Jegs and had issues with it. Sent it back for warrenty and had same issue with second unit. Went back to the generic parts store unit and have been good for the last 2 years. My issue was even when cold and a new battery and new cables I would sometimes get just a click. Both powermaster starters did the same thing. I'm sure it was on my end

Which one was the push start model?

Craig, I'll give it a good testing in May sometime, or just let it warm up real good and see if it heat soaks. If it does, I'll take the GM starter that I took off in to have it rebuilt to high torque specs at our local AC Delco shop (Floyd's Auto Electric).
